I was diagnosed with manic depression at a very young age. All my life drs have put me on all types of medication in the hope that they could fix my chemical imbalance without any success. I then went without meds to try and help myself for about 5 years but I couldn't so a month or so ago I tried some new meds (efexor). I was bed ridden for two weeks from the side effects and didnt want to eat. I took them for amonth in the hopoe that the side affects would leave they slowly did but my depression was as bad as ever. Now that i'm not on anything i'm seeing life so negatively and I don't want to. I hate having anxiety attacks over small things and I really do have full blowed crying sessions every single day. Can anyone help me? I have a counsilor and she helps a bit but the pain is still inside. I have a wonderful family and great boyfriend yet all I do is cry. I dont want to live but i'd never commit suicide because of my loved ones.
Please help? Crying or Very sad

Help...maybe
I also have first hand experience with the same types of symptoms you were going through. I was introduced to an all natural product called tahitian noni juice. I really liked the fact that it was just a juice but had all types of benificial properties to it. The fact that I found several other people that had heard and tried it gave me some reassurance. I got me a bottle and reluctantly tried it.

I can truely say it has been a blessing to me. In about two weeks after I started to drink the juice, I could feel the extra boost of energy. I don't know when but I noticed I wasn't aching anymore like I use to.

The best part was that I did find it in the physician desk reference (pdr) which is sometimes referred to as the doctors bible. It was in the 2003 - 24th edition and to my surprise, it stated in that pdr that it had no side effects, therefore I could drink it and it would not cause any problems with my other medications. I was so overwelmed that I did sign up as a distributor for two reasons. 1) because the juice really worked, 2) to get it cheaper. If you like, you can go to the website and read all the info on it an actually order right off the site.

Cbt got me better but I suffered depression and panic and am not manic depressive. Cbt is great for treating anxiety and depression, but I do not think it can cure manic depression, but have heard it is helpful for some of the symptoms. The two books we used in my group are really good and I would recommend them both highly: been there, done that? Do this! By sam obitz for anxiety and depression and mastery of your anxiety and panic-third edition by michelle craske and david barlow for panic disorder.

Manic Depression Yes I Have It Too.
Crying or Very sad Exclamation yes I was also diagnossed with manic depression at the age of 13, I guess there is no cure but a treatment can be found. Try talking to your doc. About zoloft and vitamine therapy, zoloft helped curb the panic and crying alot for me, but seroquel (for sleep at night) helps me get to sleep and feel better in the morning without crying or waking up crying. Take a multivitamin with iron, iron defiency also causes "cry" sessions. Also for mind clarity take ginseng a natural memory enhancer to help clarify your thoughts and actions.

Mind-altering drugs
Anti-depressants are simply drugs, and there are many drugs designed to make a person feel good, unfortunately, most of those drugs are addictive. I would say all are, as people become dependent on the drug/medication for happiness.

Medication can not "choose" what you think about, it alters it. So does willpower. The same willpower enabling people to exercise to lose weight, or to even fast from all food for many days. Just as the brain is the largest "sex organ" (as they say), it is also the best organ to fight depression. Instead of using drugs to alter bad thoughts, start out with good thoughts! Thoughts of goals, futures, solutions, faith in God, etc. And, crying is ok, there are such things as tears of joy!

What matters after you die? Focus on that, and you will always have a reason to hope and be happy for a future. If nothing matters after death, then "happy" people are simply fooling themselves about what's coming. If you think suicide is an option, I recommend you start off with a 40 day water fast. Then, if you still wish to pass this life up, make it longer! You will never have such an appreciation for food : ) Maybe you'll start dreaming of new recipes, and become a famous chef : ] Have faith in God and follow Christ, because it is that hope that grows stronger every day as the hope of the world fades. And, dedication to God can help you overcome any destructive habits in your life directly causing depression/image/physical issues, such as drugs, smoking, binge-eating, etc.

Abilify
I have MDD. Until a year ago they thought that I had Bipolar Disorder. I have been on everything under the sun, but lately I am on Abilify, Cymbalta, and Wellbutrin. The Abilify has been a godsend. When I started taking it it was like a switch clicked on. I am sleeping normal hours and awake most of the day, if I nap its only for an hour. However, If you suffer from energy issues, I will say that it hasn't helped me in that regards. But I am sure it is different from person to person. Abilify was first approved for Bipolar, maybe you could talk to your Dr about trying it? I have heard very good things about it for both MDD and Bipolar. Personally, I haven't heard anything bad about it....

I am so sorry you are going through this. I have had serious bouts with depression, and I know how debilitating it can be.

You say you have manic depression and that doctors have prescribed many medications for you over the years. Does that mean you tried Lithium or Depakote or Topomax? They are generally used for mood stabilization, as antidepressants alone can cause you to switch into a manic phase, or worsen your symptoms. If you have insurance, I would go see a psychiatrist, since they are specialists in managing psychiatric medications. Hope this helps.
