I also take the bicarb for 2 reasons first for the gout but also for indigestion which I have had prescriptions for.
Since taking the bicarb after breakfast and any time when any discomfort starts you will benifit very quickly.
I have bicarb in the car with been a taxi driver just in case I get any discomfort at all.I use a ( shot glass ) and use half to three quarters of a tea spoon 2 or three times a day.
I have told my doctor about taking it and he was quite happy and I have mentioned it to pharmacist's when I have picked them all up and there has been no problem from any of them.
Hope this helps you all.
Steve. Very Happy

apple cider vinegar & baking soda
Hi, I am 52 years old & have had gout on & off for about 6 years now. My big toe on the left seems to cop it the worst with a large topus on it. Tried zyloprim but stopped it as it brought on an attack. Recently I broke my right fibula & squashed my ankle whilst kite surfing. Had 2 diastasis screws in my ankle & in plaster from the knee down.
Got a bad attack after about 4 weeks of surgery & taking lots of pain killers for my ankle. The left big toe copped it again, very painful & swollen & tophus getting larger. Knew about the BS so started my attack on the gout with the following. Took indocin 2 tabs 3 times a day & zyloprim (300mg daily),half a teaspoon BS morning & evening, apple cider vinegar with the mother in it morning & evening, lots of water throughout the day. Result: pain subsided, but swelling in the toe still there, toe joint still very stiff. Helps if I keep it elevated. Moved off red meat for now. Will have a blood test after a week to check UA & kidneys. Any comments or improvement on my plan, please. I am determined to control this beast..GOUT. Thanks & good luck to all my fellow gout suffers.I feel your pain.

Baking Soda
Hi JYY,
I have been suffering from gout for the last 10 yrs now and the attacks have been once in a year, specially during the winter when it gets cold and chilly.I have never gone to a physician as i know they will prescribe Ibrufen etc.. and tell me to reduce my alchohol intake.I keep my drinks to three to four shots on weekends thats it.Do heavy workout in the gym for 2 hours.
I have never tried BAKING SODA.I am gonna take it from tonite.
Please let me know how many times a day i should take and for how long. And are there any side effects later ??

Thanks

Rhye

BS is not BS!!!
Thank you so much JYY,
I had been suffering mild (almost bearable) attacks for 5 years or so. Then two years ago I had a terrible attack, the right knee, and I was laid up for a month having been prescribed Volteren (a real low point in my life).
A few months back I had the degree of pain, went straight to ER and had the fluid drained, put on a morphine IV, and prescribed Ibuprofen, Hyrdocodone and Colchicine. No adverse side effects but still unable to walk for a week.
My latest attack was a week ago. The same knee, woke up one morning and it was like a balloon. After 3 days of complete immobility I found your website and started to take BS. I returned to work yesterday and feel great today. No meds, no ER, no major expense.
It may be a fluke but it seems to work for me!

Baking Soda absolutely works
Whoever did the website icuredmygout.org has made my life so much better. I can't tell you how he has changed my life.

I had my first gout attack at 37 then second hit when I was 44 and almost non-stop until I read this guy's website. Within hours, the pain and swelling began to go away. Now, whenever I feel the tingle in my toes and ankle, I take a teaspoon twice a day for a day or two and its gone long before it becomes disabling.

I have done all of the medications, even had steroids shot into my joints. A super dose of medrol would temporarly work, but nothing every got rid of it for long.

Try it, it works. Try it, it works.

This guy is a saint.

Chinese remedy
I've had gout on and off for a year. I get most of my info for treatment through the internet as I live in China and don't have too much faith in local doctors! However, after 3 weeks of a swollen toe, and despite taking regular Colchicine and Ibuprofen, I decided to visit a Chinese doctor for advice. Alongside the list of eat/don't eat (which I knew and largely follow) she told me to quit Colchicine and take Sodium Bicarb tablets. I was very skeptical til I returned home and Googled "sodiuim bicarbonate gout" and found this forum. Maybe there's something in it after all?? I'll try anything!

I've had gout for a year. I get most of my information form the internet, as I don't really trust the local doctors. However today I went to see one, as I've had a swollen toe for 3 weeks, despite Colchicine and Ibuprofen. She recited the usual list of things to eat/not eat (which I knew and largely adhere to), but then suggested I stop taking the Colchicine and start taking Sodium Bicarbonate tablets. I thought that sounded odd, but after Googling it, I found this forum. So I'll try it and hopefully it will help!

Thanks to JYY for icuredmygout.org!!! Bicarb works!!!
Since I ran across icuredmygout.org I've been using baking soda whenever I feel a twinge of gout pain, and it ALWAYS stops it in its tracks! I went from dealing with some degree of gout pain 80-90 percent of the time, to feeling it maybe 5 or 6 days out of the year! JYY, you are a godsend and you have literally changed my life. I cannot begin to thank you enough.
