Q: Lupus And Back Pain

Hi all this is alisonjoan yet again. I have sciatic pain and numbness - feels like a pinched nerve to me ( on my left) why would an orthopedist test fopr lupus? What is lupus? I am 34 years old. If they find I do have it does that mean they stop looking for what is wrong. What if I have a disk problem ? Can lupus cause a pinched nerve or other disk issue?
