Q: Not Sure If Pregnant Or Not

Ok, here is my situation. I am on birth control and have been for 7 years now. Last month we had alot going on and I forgot to take my pills for the first 2 days of the pack. I took them on the 3rd day with the 3rd pill. Then I hear that you are not to have sex within those 7 days or you may get pregnant. Then I hear no, its when you are ovulating. My point is, am I pregnant or not. My period should come today sept. 17/03 but not here yet. Should I worry?

Confused

I wouldn't think you have anything to worry about if you only missed by a day or two. If you missed by a week, then i'd worry that you might've ovulated already. Generally, ovulation takes place 10-14 days after the first day of your last period. The main thing is don't miss any pills after you start taking them. Because then you can ovulate and be just as fertile as if you hadn't taken any pills at all. As for being late on your period, you may be a couple of days off since you started the pack late. No sweat! Give it till you're a full 5-7 days late to be concerned. Smile

You should not worry, you are only 1 day late. Give it a few days, and take a test to find out. There is a chance you can, but since you have been on fo 7 years straight, there is a chance the pill kept working even when you got off of it. Take the test sunday morning to find out. Good luck!

P.S. You can get pregnant at any time, ovulating or not but its easiest to try when ovulating 14-15 days before your period.

I've Always Heard
That while on the pill and you go off, you are safe for a whole 30 days afterwards? Is that right? Question

Im not sure if its that long, it depends on how long youve been on it. I know you should wait 2-3 months once you stop the pill to start trying to convieve but I think its good for a little bit once you stop the pill.

I was told by my doctor that any time you stop taking the pill, you will ovulate and thus be fertile for pregnancy. Now, intravenous forms of birth control such as depo provera, can stay in the system much longer but my specialist told me you can get pregnant your first month off the pill.

Here I looked it up for you and this is what I found:

the pill
all you have to do to reverse the pill's effects is to complete one last cycle and then stop taking it at the end. While some doctors say women can start trying to get pregnant immediately after quitting, others are more cautious, because it may take some time for your usual menstruation and ovulation cycle to resume. If your periods are back on track, it's easier for your doctor to predict your due date and to schedule any tests you may need when you get pregnant. According to obstetrician and fertility specialist john sussman, author of before you conceive: a complete prepregnancy guide, long-term pill use has no bearing on your ability to reproduce. If your periods are irregular after you stop taking the pill, they probably would have been irregular anyway. But, he adds, if you're one of those on-again, off-again pill users, you may have to wait a little longer to resume a normal ovulatory pattern.

There you go, good luck
