Hi! I hope that someone out there can help me. I have a 9 year male child this is overweight but stays active. I am not sure where to take him to see if he has a medical problem or if there is something that I should try at home. Weight watchers did not even help him out with this and it effects how he feels about himself terribly. Please help. Thank you.

My son is the same...Overweight but our dr told me not to worry about it..
But I do I know what problems could arise and how social life will be affected by this...I am thinking about going to get a second opinion...

Active User, very eHealthy
Being "overweight" doesn't necessarily mean that your child is eating too much, or not the right things. This could be a genetic thing that, sorry to say, no mater how much dieting and exercise, you will always maintain that shape..Give or take a few pounds...Unless the weight is so severe that its posing as a physical threat to your child, I would keep an eye on what he eats, and just let him be...Sometimes it takes younger children who are overweight to hit puberty and realize that they are different from the other kids....Most of the time this encourages them to want to be more fit and firm...Oh and if your child's friends dont want to be friends with him because of his weight, I suggest he start looking for new kids to play with. Size doesnt matter, its what you can offer on the inside that counts...Good luck, hope all turns out well

Extremely eHealthy
My daughter was constantly active, ate more healthily (in general)than her peers yet was in the upper range of average/abit tubby this stayed the same even after she stopped dsancing/swimming/singing & sport between ages 10 & 12. Then at 14 she got braces/hit puberty & it all changed, in fact she now needs to gain some weight to be really healthy.

It does depend just how overweight your son is & whether it's him who's affected by it or you who's affcting him with unnrcessary worry???? Just give that possibility some thought.

Also though do look at what he eats & when, we are all unique & maybe he needs different foods, or to have his meals at differnet times or larger meals at different times or 5 small rather than 3 large meals a day?? Also he does need to be active, preferably in a sport that he likes & is good at, which would also help his self esteem.
