Q: Advice Needed: Combined Vs Progestin Only

I was wondering if anyone could help me weigh up the potential costs of using a progestin only pill compared to a combined pill.

I know that any pill will affect each woman differently, but i'm just looking for the general perspective, in terms of weight gain, fluid retention, pms, headaches, breast tenderness/growth, etc?

Sunflower-no they dont as far as I know but im no doc so dont rely on it 100%! The pill can be affected by some herbal rememdies though such as st johsn wort
vanessa-i like the progestern only myself.Ive been on both types (tried 3 different combined) and this suits me best.Ive had no side effects & no periods but then everyone reacts differently I guess so you may need to try both to see what suits you & your body.

I found a good website for you here which looks at the two types.I hope its useful :d

this site has the advantages & disadvantages for both pills: http://www.Atfloydian.U-net.Com/alt-contra ceptives/pill.Htm

p.S. If the links dont work its because theyre in capitals so u need to re-type so there are no capitals!!!!!

Thanks that website was really useful.

My doctor is considering switching me to a pop however i'm concerned it's not as effective as a combined pill/patch. Also, i'm wary of unwanted effects such as weight gain, however it appears that the combined and the pop have similar potential effects in that department. Sad

why is contraception so complicated??

I think the side effects between the both are quite similar to be honest.Like I said though everyone will react differently to different pills.I havent gained any weight at al but someone else on my pill may have gained loads-it depends on your bodies reaction.
Contraception is so complicated I know! Those tiny pills can prevent you from becoming pregnant-its amazing!
Talk about your concerns to your doctor & s/he will reassure you and remember that you may have to try a few to see what suits you best.Let me know how you get on,
