Well ladies - hope everyone has been getting a regular af, or has had a bfp show up!!!!!!

I last wrote in october, since then, I have only had 1 af - on nov.4th. I am now on cd37 and still waiting! I started taking ovulex to try and get my body back to normal cycle lengths and get the ovulation going Smile
not sure how, or if it's working quite yet!? So far, (since coming off the bcp in june, and was on it for 12 years) af's are about 50 days apart. Next one is probably due on x-mas eve, or day - nice huh?!

Hope I get a bfp though....Here's to wishful thinking!

Good luck to all you ladies ttc'ing and or just hoping for a normal cycle length for af!!!!! Laughing i'll be keeping my fingers crossed for all of you!

I'm in the same boat. I stopped NuvaRing after 7(?) years of being on various pills (Levlite, OrthoEvra, etc). That was in June 2006. So, it has been almost a year without a real period. I say "real" because in July & August 2006 I had periods but I think thats because the hormones from the Pill were still in my system. In October I went to see my GYN and she induced a period with the Progesterone challenge test. She said that that fact that I bled meant my body was fine but "forgot" how to make progesterone. I'll be interested to see what she says in July. We've been TTC since Nov/Dec of 2006. And obviously without ovulation, you can't make a baby so thats been somewhat frustrating. I am so glad though, to see that I'm not alone.

I haven't had a period since going off the pill in february. I mentioned this to my doctor and she is testing me for hyperthyroidism - graves disease. I expect to get the test results today. You might want to look into that if you haven't gotten a period in awhile. I'm hoping that's not what is wrong with me...I had my obgyn take more blood today to run some other tests, too.

I was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism a year ago. My doctor never directly said that that could deter my periods, but at my check ups he would always ask me if they were normal. I've been off birth control since January and didn't have a period until February, Then I didn't have another and this is June. I'm not active so I'm not ruling out pregnancy. I will definitely call up my doctor and see if the two correlate. Thank you so much for the help!!! Smile

Chinese Doctors In New York
Posted: 06-25-07 13:26pm

Hi - Has anybody found a good chinese doctor to treat amhenorrea or infertility in the New York City area?
After stopping taking the pill, I didn't have a period for two years. According to ob-gyns hormone levels were normal. Then I self-medicated with a dose of the chinese herb tong jing wan. Lo and behold me period came the following week. After that I've had a period every three to four months until January - when it stopped again altogether.
Since the beginning doctors have been prescribing clomid and provera - but I really don't want to fill up my body with hormones after my experience with the BCP.
I am now seeing a naturopath (no success yet) and wanted to explore chinese medicine...

Well no more freaking out, I started my period today!!!! i'm excited because I finally started after three months of wondering when it was going to be here. I had been getting some signs but didn't really take them seriously until this morning whenever I saw red. That was amazing. This site has really eased my doubts and helped me out so much, I'm glad I stumbled upon it. I will use it all the time now. But of course I will still use my doctor's advice as well. Thanks for all the great help and advice.

After Reading
Posted: 08-16-07 20:53pm

Hey everyone,

after reading many of the posts I realize that I am not a total freak. I have endometriosis and have a history of fibroids etc. i have been on all sorts of depo provera and other items..lastly continuous birth control...but i quit in March 07 and got my first period July 07...but haven't had another period yet..i did get my hormones checked and apparently they are good...

Should I expect that I can get pregnant regardless of my period? and When did people start taking their folic acid????

Hi,

I just joined, and I wanted to share my experience with pp amenorrhea...I was off and on different BC pills for about 2.5 years to regulate my period (including 6 months or so on the patch which ended up being too strong for me). When I decided to stop taking the pill in January 2006, my periods stopped coming as well. I guess I might have grown dependent on the pills for producing hormones bc I was nearly devoid of hormones (I had different hormone tests done and they all showed very near-zero levels of estrogen and progesterone, and low levels of all other hormones except for cortisol, which made sense since I was so stressed about my lack of periods. I was like in hormone hell, and it affected nearly every aspect of my daily life.

The good news is that last month, Oct 2007, I got my period! So it took nearly 2 years for my period to come back, and now it's still strange bc I'm only on the second cycle. I just wanted to post here and let y'all know that hope is not lost...I was really depressed and stressed out about my amenorrhea, so just be patient and keep hoping!

BTW, I tried different things to get my period back, progesterone didn't even induce a bleed. I also tried Chinese herbs for a brief time (probably not long enough to work), acupuncture, vitamin supplements, and I even went back to eating meat bc I thought maybe my vegetarian diet lacked the iron necessary. None of the medicines worked, I think it just takes time. Good luck to all...I feel your pain!

I too have been having the trouble that a lot of you seem to have - I came of the pill 7 months ago and have had three periods. I have just been to the doctor, who wants to do blood tests once I get my next period. At least I am having some kind of period, but he says that I am most likely not ovulating - so even if you get a period, it actually doesn't mean that you are fertile, which I am really disappointed to hear. I am already 33 and want to have children soon, as I am getting married next year and wanted to start trying ASAP. This is quite upsetting for me, but I hope that even if I am told I have pcos that I can get some kind of fertility treatment. I am English and in UK, but still not sure if we get that on the NHS. Aaggghh!

Anxious And Worried

I went off the pill back in June after being on it for about 4 years, and have yet to get a period. I went to an ob/gyn today, and she ran some tests, but I'm freaking out that something is seriously wrong with me. Everything that I've been reading online says that longer than 6 months without a period means that it's not just a normal delay. Is it possible that the pill just seriously screwed with my hormone levels? If the doc decides to induce with progesterone, is it possible that there's nothing else wrong, and I could just start having normal periods? I'm only 23 and my hubby and I would like to have kids one day, so this whole reproductive system not working is stressing me out--which I'm sure is not helping. Reading this forum was helpful, I just wish I knew what was wrong with me!

THANKS A LOT DOC
Posted: 06-16-08 15:29pm

After not getting a period for 7 months after going off the pill, I asked my doctor during my PAP (Which was normal). She said I probably had polycystic ovarian syndrome, even though I do NOT fit the normal candidates for the syndrome (ie overweight, hair growth etc.)

Anyway I read online to take 540 mg of the herb Black Cohosh every day (this is the herb in Estroven used for menopausal symptoms). I am only 26 and have been on the pill for about 5 years. Well I read that it helps regulate your hormones, and a week and a half later I GOT MY PERIOD.

I got my period when I was 15 originally, and it came about every 6 months until I went on the pill. But the pill has synthetic hormones which your body comes to depend on. But it seems to have worked and I am going to continue taking it and see if my cycle regulates! So ladies, try it after talking to a doctor of course, but mine could NOT help me!! Maybe this will...
