I know, I just got some! Well I havent taken it just yet because my gyno said I should put it on the first day of my period to work right away. And in each suppy comes 3 patches. You put one patch a week, and the week of your period wear nothing. You place it on the back of you neck, your thigh or other places it allows you. They are very effective like the pill too. And if one happens to fall of (which it shouldnt) you can call the company and they will supply a new box for free.

Ortho-evra Contraceptive Patch
I started using the patch about 2 months ago. I love everything about it except that it makes me nauseaus (sp?) every time I start a new one. At the beginning of a new four week cycle I actually start vomiting about 24 hours after starting the patch again. It has gotten better each time, didn't throw up this time, just nauseaus. They stick really well and you only have to think about them one time a week (usually sundays). I would definitely recommend them to others.

Oh no, I hate throwing up! I didnt know they make you do that! The only reason is because everytime I throw up, I guess I force to hard or something, but my eyes get red, and I get a rashy looking thing around my eyes! I look like a weirdo! The doctor said its a popped blood vessel or something. Aww man. Oh well. I guess ill have to fight it then!!!

Nikki, I was thinking about getting on the patch myself since I cant rely on myself to take the pills everyday. I was wondering if you experienced any weight gain on it?

Nope I started today, and the doctor says there is no weight gain. Maybe some nausea but thats about it. Its pretty much the same thing as the pill. This was best for me because I will never remember to take a pill everyday. And since I started friday, I replace it every friday until my period starts again. I would rather recommend the patch since its so easy, and with insurance I only pay like $35. And the doc gave me a free replacement incase one falls off. The company gives you a month free if it does that so I like it!

the Patch
I've been on the patch for about 3 months now...I like it...But i'm kind of having my doubts about it right now because I think I may be pregnant. I purposely got on the patch so this wouln'd happen, but somehow I think it did. I guess the patch is reliable and maybe i'm just stressing out over nothing, but it is possible to get pregnant while on the patch, or pill for that matter. As far as I know you're only supposed to put the patch on your lower abdomin, your butt, or your shoulder. My doctor said no neck or thigh, it won't work if it's placed there. I recommend it, just take extra precautions.

The cramps are from your period, but the patch regulates your hormones and makes it normal. So that way it not all funky. You might want to check with your doc if you feel its a miscariage but I think your fine. You might get some nausea too from it. Good luck!

I've been on it for 10 months now and 5 months ago started feeling sick with headaches and heavy cramps and very hot with every patch change but mostly aroun the time I start a new cycle. I've also gained 25 lbs. I'm getting off when I have my yearly in june. I would have to say I don't reccomend it but the side effects are diff for everyone.

Just wondering if anybody could answer my slightly related question...

I've heard that after removing the patch it leaves a brown mark, and the next patch has to be placed in a different area. Can anybody who uses the evra patch tell me how long the brown marks stays for? (i'm hoping its not permanent!)

thanks xxx

Where the patch was it leaves a sticky residue that can be taken off with baby oil or in the shower with a little bit of scrubbing. But it does not leave a brown mark. Yes you do have to place the patch in a diff area because it could cause skin irritation. I hope this helps.

Thanks a lot, that did help.

I have been prescribed the evra patch by my doctor (after trying two unsuccessful contraceptive pills; microgynon and cilest) and I am quite wary about it, however from reading these posts the possible side effects seem to be similar to the pill, so I am slightly reassured that it shouldn't be too big a change. My doctor told me if the side effects are bad, she'll put me on a mini-pill to try that out.

I cant wait until they put a reliable male pill on the market!
