I had a spinal fusion in my upper thorasic
area 7 years ago and have had no problems.
Does anyone know any potential problems
of pregnancy with the harrington rods?

Hi -
i had a harrington rod and a fusion from
t10 to l5 (lowest vertebrae above the
tailbone) back in 1977. I had 2 kids
9/10 yrs ago. No problems from the
rod/fusion during the pregnancy, but the
lower fusion caused a small problem with
the epidural. They tried to give me it
thru the spinal column and could not due
to the fusion. So when I had my csections
I had to have general anesthesia. They
were in and out very quickly. Everything
went well.
Good luck.

Harrington Road And Pregnancy Posted: 08-01-07 14:21pm
I have the Harrington Road too. When I had
child number one and even brought my
X-rays with me to the hospital at birth
time I was told they could TRY and give me
an epidural. They didn't know if they
would be able to do it. It might take a
few tries. Thank you, no. They hooked me
up to a drug machine instead. Child 2 was
an emergency C-section so an epidural
didn't come into it. This time I am
pregnant with number 3 and I am planning a
C section.
I had my rod put in for a scoliosis
operation. I was 14 so I didn't get much
of an opinion my parents decided for me.
I saw you are from Maryland so was I at
the time. I had my operation done at
Kernan's Children's Hospital. What about
you?
