i have been on the nuva ring for about 6 months. I have been on and off birth control for approx. 4 years. I chose nuva ring because of the dosage amount. It is the lowest that I am aware off on the market. It doesn't mean that it won't have side effects. I love it though. I haven't gained weight and my skin is still great. The simplicity of it is wonderful (not having to worry day to day about taking a pill). Depro-provera (depo shot) has been known to case weight gain. If a big issue for you is weight gain, you may want to consider yasmin. It contains a diuretic which helps with any excess water retention (ie water weight gain) I loved it except it made me slightly irritiable. You may not have that effect though. I would definately try the nuva ring, and see how it works out for you. So far so good for me
