Your best bet is to ask your doc why she asks you this question at this particular moment. Perhaps she notices somethign a little different there, I can't really say.

Communication with your doctor is a great way to learn a bit about your body, and a great way to learn how to keep healthy.

I'm a Medical Assistant & Worked For An Ob/gyn
The Dr. I worked for usually pressed on the lower & upper abdominal areas during the pelvic exam, (when the Dr. Inserts fingers with one hand, while using the other to press on your belly) to feel the uterus, cervix, ovaries, etc. I believe the liver, pancreas, and appendix are around the left side of the body. Perhaps your Dr. May have been looking for any tenderness, or inflammation in those organs, which would indicate further testing or ultrasound might be needed. Different medical conditions cause concern with certain organs, I developed hellp syndrome during my pregnancy, I experienced severe upper gastric pain (on the left side, underneath my ribs) and that was due to my liver being so inflamed, it almost ruptured! A thorough doctor is a great thing, and like the above post said, communication with you Dr. Is very important. I hope this helps!
