Q: Pain With Certain Movement In My Upper Arm

I cannot put my left arm behind my back and rest my arm in the small of my back with out extreme pain and losing some sensation simutaneously. I cannot raise my left art directly parallel while unfolded above my head without extreme pain and partial loss of sensation.

This condition has only been around for about 2 months, and does not seem to be improving. I wake up in the night sometimes in pain because i've moved my arm in some way to aggravate it.

The pain seem to be close to my shoulder. The pain is not in my back.

I went to the doctor a month ago, and she felt it was muscular and would heal if i'm easy on it. It's getting to me. Pain medications do not affect the pain when I move it into a painful position. I'm also noting some sensations of "popping" in the shoulder joint, and sometimes the range of movement is more limited than other times.

I had this same thing. It could be something with your rotator cuff. My doctor gives me a shot of cortizone every few months. Eventually, i'll have to have surgery but the cortizone really works.

I have had pain as you are describing for about 2 years. Lying on my left side at night is almost unbearable. The doc did an mri and said it was a torn rotator cuff and wanted to do surgery right away. I did not like the sudden decision. I have been going to pt and doing mild excercises with a 1 lb. Weight and many treatments of ultra sound thearpy . I feel it has really calmed it down. I do take some anti-inflammatories alsol celebrex.
I have heard of too many people having pain long after surgery so I am a bit concerned about doing that.
