Q: Group Health Insurance Or An Individual Plan -- Help!!

My wife has health problems. She may be diagnosed with a serious illness soon (like chron's or cancer). I have group health insurance, but because of my job I may have to switch companies at the end of the year. Will a new group health insurance company consider this a pre-existing condition and deny converage for it so that I get stuck with the bills? If that is the case, should I get an individual policy for my wife and I now before she gets diagnosed? What should I do?

Thats sorry advice, joel.

Carriers include disclaimers to cover them in the event someone applies for coverage thinking they may have an illness that is not yet diagnosed. If a claim is filed a short while after coverage is approved it is entirely possible the claim will be denied and the coverage rescinded.

Hope you carry lots of e&o . . .

And to rayclark . . . Hipaa makes transitioning from one group to the next almost seamless. As long as there is no break in coverage your wife should be covered by the new carrier.
