Congratulations!
Hello,
fist off, congratulations on your plans!
Ovulation is a tricky tricky concept. In theory, every woman has a 28 day menstrual cycle, day one being the first day of her period and day 14 being her ovulation date. On the ovulation date an egg is released. So you're saying ok- we'll do it on day 14. Wrong. Since it take sperms several days to swim up there (hey - they're small lil things) you should actaully be doing it before she ovulates. This all sounds simple enough, however not every woman has a perfect 28 day cycle (i sure don't!) so the easiest way to figure out the right time for "baby dancing" is through basal body temprature charting and / or ovulation predictor kits.

Best of luck to you and your girlfriend.

Also
Try additionally charting your cervical mucus flow. This is far more accurate than charting your temperature, and moreso than the store-bought ovulation predictors.

Women typically ovulate 14 days before their period starts in contrast to "day 14" or halfway through their period. This is significant for any woman who has a non-28 day cycle (whether it be as little as 21 or as much as 40 - you can imagine this would make a considerable difference. For example with my 40day cycles, I usually ovulate about day 25 or so.
