Do I Have Skin Cancer?
Posted: 05-16-04 02:43am

I had a pimple about two years ago that later turned brown and looks like a mole, it's lighter than my complexion however, (i have medium brown skin). I didn't worry about it because it started going down and it is symmetrical and had no signs of being cancerous, plus I had no insurance then. Well I recently had a baby and the mole seems to have grown, or something has grown underneath and to the side of it. It first started off getting hard, and now has gotten tender, and is turning a reddish color like i've been hit in the face. It feels like the size of a marble. I do not have any scaling or bleeding. I am only 22 years old. I am going to make an appointment to get it removed, regardless of what it is, but since my husband is away in iraq until (mid june) I would have to wait since I have no one to even watch my son until then.

Should I worry about waiting until then? Does it sound like I have skin cancer of some sort? If so, what type? Please help!

Just take the baby with you or arrange for a baby sitter for a couple of hours, just start interviewing a couple of girls, call the high school and their are generally a few businesses that are licensed to do that besides you need a break from your baby every now and then and it is also good for the baby also. Don't you get medical insurance from your husband being in the military? I sure hope your husband is s o.K. We just had my husbands son just come back from iraq.
I wish all of you the best!
Sincerely,
sandy

I just had one removed yesterday that was really textbook melanoma.... And I thought I wasn't gonna have much life left. Alas, I too had mine two years and guess what? It was all on the surface and they just removed it and I will be fine. Now, don't panic... But don't make excuses and go to the hospital. If your husband is going to iraq (my best to you and your family) it's sure he's military and they will allow you to take your child with you. So go... And I can empathize. I don't have a husband still in the military or in iraq, but my husband is ex air force and did spend a year in the mideast. I had no friends or family to help me and those who said they'd sponsor me were not wanting to help. I only called them two times during the year for help and it was like I was bothering them. So I know what it's like. Take your child with you and get to the doctor. It's never good to wait and don't feel bad if it turns out to be nothing. Better safe than sorry!

I'm glad to here that sueh! I was thinking about you. I haven't gotten my official biopsy report back, but I called yesterday morning and the nurse said it looked like it came back ok.
I agree not to panic pea.. Definitely get it checked out soon but don't get too worried about it or you will just feel worse.

Well I got my biopsy back the other week and thankfully it wasn't melanome, however it is called a dysplastic or atypical nevi meaning that both aren't normal moles and have a higher tendency to turn into melanoma. So now I really have to watch myself to make sure I don't get it.
