I have sleep apnea and my arms and fingers go numb when I don't use my CPAP machine. I didn't see anyone mention Sleep Apnea as a possible cause so I wanted to mention it.

Numbness in arms and hands at night
I went to a new Chiropractor who told me that he sees this "all the time". He showed me some simple exercises that have almost cured me 100%. He said the numbness is actually a "referral symptom" caused by weak muscles in the back between the shoulder blades. The back muscles weaken as we get older from poor posture, etc. The exercises work but you have to also pay attention and correct your posture. He suggested "pretending you are squeezing a pencil between your should blades" to help with correct posture. The exercise is simple. Bend over at the waist so your body is at a 45 degree angle. Support your body with your right arm which should be straight down. Bend right knee at a 45 degree angle and support on a stool or low table. Your back should be straight. Use a handweight (I use an 8lb weight) and holding your left arm straight down at your waist lift up and down slowly bending your elbow but keeping the weight close to your body. (I do 10 reps 4 times). Then move your arm back so it is at your hip and do 10 reps 3 times. Switch sides. You should feel it in your back between your shoulder blades if you are doing it correctly. I did this every other day for about 3 weeks before I saw relief but the results are incredible. Be patient and keep at it;..This does work !!!

i am 21 and i lift frequently to gain weight. starting from 145 lbs to 155 lbs, my hands only became swollen and numb after i gained the ten lbs. after being at this weight for a while the swollen and numb hands and arms every morning went away. i have gained another ten lbs. this problem has come back, i only worry that it will cut off blood flow to somewhere that will really harm me, like brain damage due to lack of blood. of course i would wake up and not even know it because the damage would be done and i would be unaware of the affects. that doesnt tell me that there isnt any affects. but i will wake up with my arm completely swollen as much as it can be and completely numb and this only happens when i wake up on my side, i cant sleep on my back
