Q: Teen Pregnancy Statistics (this Is Bs!)

I found this at a website... Its just bs. It makes us pregnant teens and teen parents seem like horrible parents. No wonder so many people talk health question, its from these health question statistics.

The united states has the highest rates of teen pregnancy and births in the western industrialized world. Teen pregnancy costs the united states at least $7 billion annually.

-
the children of teenage mothers have lower birth weights, are more likely to perform poorly in school, and are at greater risk of abuse and neglect.

-
thirty-five percent of young women become pregnant at least once before they reach the age of 20. Eight in ten of these pregnancies are unintended and 79 percent are to unmarried teens.

-
teen mothers are less likely to complete high school (only one-third receive a high school diploma) and only 1.5% have a college degree by age 30. Teen mothers are more likely to end up on welfare (nearly 80 percent of unmarried teen mothers end up on welfare).

- the teen birth rate has declined slowly but steadily from 1991 to 2002 with an overall decline of 31 percent for those aged 15 to 19. These recent declines reverse the 23-percent rise in the teenage birth rate from 1986 to 1991. The largest decline since 1991 by race was for black women. The birth rate for black teens aged 15 to 19 fell 42 percent between 1991 to 2002. Hispanic teen birth rates declined 21 percent between 1991 and 2002. The rates of both hispanics and blacks, however, remain higher than for other groups. Hispanic teens now have the highest teenage birth rates. Most teenagers giving birth before 1980 were married whereas most teens giving birth today are unmarried.

- the sons of teen mothers are 13 percent more likely to end up in prison while teen daughters are 22 percent more likely to become teen mothers themselves.

- the younger a teenaged girl is when she has sex for the first time, the more likely she is to have had unwanted or non-voluntary sex. Close to four in ten girls who had first intercourse at 13 or 14 report it was either non-voluntary or unwanted.

- before they make you a grandparent. One of every 3 girls has had sex by age 16, 2 out of 3 by age 18. Two of 3 boys have had sex by age 18.

- surprise: your teen wants to hear from you. Seven of ten teens interviewed said that they were ready to listen to things parents thought they were not ready to hear. When asked about the reasons why teenage girls have babies, 78 percent of white and 70 percent of african-american teenagers reported that lack of communication between a girl and her parents is often a reason teenage girls have babies.

Well that just shows that statistics arent always right...I guess it may depend in the area their doing there studies.. And im sure more teen moms may be on welfare if they dont have supporitive familys or money etc and arent with the fathers, so their doing it alone, and cant work full time or anything.. And thats not nessecarily bad.. At least their doing something to get their kids what they need.. But I think it sucks if people view the general public of teen moms to be like this...But people in this forum prove otherwise.

Just wondering what is it about the statistics posted that you find offensive, and why they have made you so defensive? It may be true that your babies are wanted and well-cared for, and that they (and you) will do very well in school, and grow up in loving families. All the statistics show is social reality: there are a lot of drug-users, ignorance about birth control methods, girls being pressured to have sex before they are ready, and that poorer girls have less chance of a healthy pregnancy and being able to look after their kids...And they probably don't have all-day internet access to post on forums like this.

I seen poopoo post in the abortion forum... I dont really understand his (or her.. Lol sorry I dont know) point in posting the message here. These statistics are why teen mothers are viewed so bad, why people give us them looks and say certain things. They never make statistics on teen mothers that make it now do they? Of course not cuz they dont want people to view it as an ok thing...

Yeah but see its only us, not too many girls are the same and think like we all do. I know alot of mothers out here that are teens and terrible at it. They shouldnt even be having kids and they make other teens moms who try hard look bad! I believe those statistics kinda, but they dont add the moms who do good at all. They have to give some of you credit.

Maybe they should do those same statistics on average aged mothers...I bet they would find the same results. It doesn't matter what age you are, there are going to be good parents and there are going to be bad parents. The only reason they do those statistics for teen mothers is because they don't want to make it seem like an okay thing to do. I can honestly say I don't know a single teenage mom that is a "bad" parent or they abuse their child. I know more average aged parents who do awful things to their children....So why don't these poll takers go do statistics on those people instead of targeting us. Then maybe they'd be doing some good, because honestly, I think it's a waste of time.

Lol very true... It doesnt matter about your age, your either a good parent or a bad parent... Age doesnt matter, its all about your maturity, and for the young ones, the ability to mature. I know im more mature than alot of adults that I know...And one of them is 40 something and just had a baby... And she is one of them people you could never picture being a mom... Shes a really selfish woman.

Actually not all these statistics. In fact most of them are completely true ( I have worked in teen pregnancy centers you have no idea what kind of people you see.) I dont think these statistics should anger you, they should make you feel proud of yourself for surpassing societys expectations and being a good teenage mother.

I do not understand why cursing is so popular on this forum
however, I also do not understand what the problem is with those statistics. Statistics are just that. Majority information. That does not mean that all teen parents are bad.
And poopoo can post wherever she wants to. This is a public forum.

Hotasfrick~ why do u care so much about 'cursing'?!! Its not a big deal. Do you just come here to try to start confrontation? We know its a public forum and anyone can post..However, ur a hypocrite because ive seen you posting in the abortion forum yelling at this gordy guy for posting in there the way he does! People can say whatever they please.Even if their saying it to someone whos posted. Im sorry I think u act like forum patrol.
