Well early yesterday my father had a heart attack. (roughly around noon) he didnt think it was anything for about an hour, then realized it was serious. I picked him up, took him home, and called family. (two of my uncles have suffered heart attacks and lived, one last year, one about 3 years ago, both healthy now). My family came over, and we had my dad resting on the couch, where he stayed for quite awhile.
You're probably asking why I didnt take him to the hospital, so i'll explain.
Our family has never been prone to hospitals. If someone sprains an ankle, wrap it up, ice it, and maybe consult a book/internet if more is needed. We're religious but not really really religious. I was afraid to take my dad to the hospital mainly because I was afraid to lose him. Right now its been about 23 hours since his heart attack and he's doing better. Im afraid if I would have taken him to the hospital, he would have given up on me. I think he's holding on for me and my sister, since we're all he has left (mother died 7 years ago, they were really close).
Anyways, im wondering what I should do as of right now. My sister flew in last night, and one of my uncles stayed the night, and a different one is here now. My dad seems pretty out of it mentally, his thoughts are clouded and he isnt sure what he wants. The pain has eased up, but he's struggling to clear his mind.
We havnt given him any sort of medication, mainly because we didnt think he'd be able to swollow it, let alone know what to give him. He's been drinking more water, nothing to eat yet though.
He said earlier his chest was really gassy, and that it was kind of hard to breath, is there anything that can relieve that?
We dont want to take him into the hospital, because i'd almost guarantee we'd lose him if we took him in.
Any recommendations of what to do over the next few days? Anything we can give him? Certain foods/fluids? Things that will make him more comfortable, breath better, etc.
Thanks for any help you can give
