I've been reading up on this mole I have. I've had it for a couple years at least. It's gotten huge and fits all the criteria i've read for a stage 4 melanoma. It's larger than a pencil eraser, it's scaly, it itches occasionally, it's nodular, it's asymetrical (just a bit) and today it bled. I do have an appointment next week....

If i've had this for 2 or more years, what are the odds of a cure? They say 5 years to live? Seeing i've had it over two years, that's not good. But is there any help after having it so long? And finally, can there be a chance it's actually nothing and I am worrying for nothing?

It sounds like something even if it isn't as far along as you may fear or maybe a skin condition and not cancerous. It depends on how deep the mole grows as to how bad it is. It may still be localized even if it's been there for 2 years. If it's localized and not very deep (even though it's wide), then the chances of a cure are very high. It usually has to spread beyond the mole into your system for it to be deadly. If it's as you say it is, they will remove the entire thing in the doctors office. I wish you the best. I just had a very suspicious one taken off myself last thursday. I am waiting for the biopsy results (which I won't get until next week.. That's a long wait).

Thank you sooo much for your reply and I want you to know I will include you in my prayers. I keep reading all this negative stuff and all the things I read say if it's this far along, the odds are 5 years to live and since i've had it so long... I have been going through a lot and no one understands. I keep thinking of all the poor people on this board and others and don't know how they do it. Even if it turns out I do not have it as bad as I am thinking, my whole outlook on life will be different and the one thing I am committed to already is i'll be there for anyone who needs me.....

Compassion is where it's at.

You gave me a little hope and it means a whole lot. You also answered my next question about how long it takes from biopsy to diagnosis. I am suffering just waiting for the biopsy. I can't imagine another week after. Keep the faith and my thoughts will be with you during your wait.

They told me 10-14 days (in total). I would say to give it at least 1 week (or 5 working days) at a minimum.
