Q: Alcohol Consumption and Lupus
asked by: DoctorQuestion on February 29th, 2008
is drinking alcohol a cause for a lupus flare or can a person with lupus drink when they are no longer on anti-alcohol medication (such as cellcept)?

is it more of a moderation change such as a few glasses of wine and beer are okay but hard liquour is completely off limits?

While alcohol does not directly cause lupus to flare-up, it may make your overall condition worse due to the damage alcohol inflicts on the body. Excessive drinking, especially hard liquor, can have a very negative impact on your health condition.
