Upper abdominal/lower ribcage pain that radiates to my back Posted: 02-28-08 06:57am
Four days ago I started waking up at 2:30
to 3:00 a.m. with pain in the center of my
upper abdomen, right at the base of my
ribcage, that radiates through to my back.
The first night I just got up, watched
some TV, and the pain subsided in about 4
hours. The second and third nights I took
a couple of Tums and the pain subsided in
1 1/2 hours or so. I thought it might be
heartburn, so last night I took some
Prilosec OTC, and I made it to 5 a.m. this
time, but the pain hit me again. It's not
a stabbing pain, but specific enough to
localize the pain, and strong enough to be
very uncomfortable and wake me up. I get
acid reflux in my throat from time to
time, but a couple Tums or Rolaids takes
care of that. Can this be heartburn or
indigestion? Does this ring a bell for
anyone? Any thoughts or comments will be
greatly appreciated!

You should go to your doctor. This could
be just heartburn and gas but it could be
cardiac related. Get it checked out.

Here I am again tonight, not sleeping
because of this pain. Tonight was
different though. It started about 20
minutes after I layed down. I tried
several different positions (back, side,
stomach), but it didn't matter. Hurt too
bad to sleep. As I walk around all day,
no pain. Seems to be related to laying
down. I'm going to try to sleep sitting
on the couch. Has anyone else dealt with
symptoms like this? I would love for this
to stop!
