Q: Herpes from lavatory?

A while ago, I was using a public restroom. I was about to wipe when I dropped the toilet paper. I quickly picked it up and used it. The floor was wet, but the TP was still completely dry, and did not come in direct contact with the bathroom floor. About a week later, I noticed small red bumps on the top of my vagina. They were not hard or pus filled, nor painful, and they disappeared in less than a day. A couple months later, the same thing happened.

More recently, I developed what looked and felt like a rash just inside the bottom opening of my vagina. I applied cortisone cream to it and it responded nicely.

Even so, my question is this: Could I have contracted genital herpes from using that toilet paper, or is it more likely these are occurrences unrelated to that event?

Hello there Smile

No... you can only get herpes if it is a skin-to-skin contact. Unless you had unprotected sex-- even then, everyone is still at risk in contracting the virus.

Hope this helps Smile

No you dont have herpes. Mainly because the decription doesnt match a herpes sore. As for the rash - you could have just been irritated.

So, herpes isn't spread through bodily fluids? I heard that it is, or that it can be, at least.

Also, with the rash, I experienced a discharge similar to what I've read is a possible symptom of herpes. I had soreness in my abdominal area, as well.

I don't know if those symptoms make it any more likely that this is herpes. Hopefully, that's not the case, and I can put my mind at ease.

I would go to the doctor to ensure it isn't something-- just to put your mind at ease. There are urgent cares & clinics that are cheaper to go to rather than a gyno office (that's if you don't have insurance.) You could have a bacterial infection, yeast infection, a different type of std- but it doesn't sound like herpes to me (since I have it.)

Hope this helps.

herpes is passed on by skin to skin contact not by bodily fluids. Since bodily fluids touch your skin they could help trasmit the viris. But skin to skin is the way. Thats why there is still a chance to pass it even with a condom. However its only 1 percent chance
