Shai might like Babysitters Club or Boxcar Children. I LOVED those when I was younger. Also, Magic Treehouse and maybe A Series of Unfortunate Events.
I was a really advanced reader so I never read anything at my age level, so other that that I'm really out of suggestions.
Oh, has your son read any of the Arthur books? Those are always good.
My personal favorite when it comes to children's books is, hands down, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie...

that's finn's favorite! he brings it to me about 10 times a day.

i'd make some suggestions but i don't really know how age appropriate they would be. the pigeon books by mo willems are great, your younger kids might like those. oh! skippyjon jones! those books are my favorites! they're about a siamese cat who thinks he's a chihuahua.

i also loved babysitter's club when i was about 10.

Ava loves all of the pigeon books and so do I. They're by Mo Willems. There's Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late, Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus, The Pigeon has Feelings Too, The Pigeon Finds a Hotdog, and there's more.

When I was 10 I liked Cynthia Voigt (sp? I'm too lazy to google her name right now). She wrote Homecoming, Dicey's song, A Solitary Blue... there's a whole series. I also liked Madeleine L'Engle (A Wrinkle in Time), oh and a book called From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler. I also liked The Little Prince and The Indian in the Cupboard books. Ummm....I'll think of more.

I forgot about From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler! I LOVED that book!
I read The Little Prince in 7th grade and honestly didn't like it. Then again, we also got forced into reading Plato's Allegory of the Cave, so I think I was protestingish.

I think I might have to re-read it. We were all so pissed about the Allegory of the Cave that we didn't take the time to really appreciate the book. I'll pick up a copy at the library tomorrow.

Where the Wild Things Are
Oh, The Places You'll Go (Actually all Dr. Seuss)
The Giving Tree
Berenstain Bear books

And a few more of my childhood favorites...
I don't know what ages that these are appropriate for...
The Wind in the Willows (My absolute favorite book growing up outside of my collection of Hans Christian Anderson)
The Chronicles of Narnia
Anything by Judy Blume
Rudyard Kipling's Just so stories
Three Investigator's series
