Brain Atrophy Posted: 02-25-08 19:07pm
My father had a CT scan done and found out
he has Brain Atrophy. His doctor or the
CT specialist have not explained exactly
what has gone wrong, maybe what caused
this, where to go from here? We do not
know if there is medication that he can
take, if he needs therapy. He desperately
wants to go back to work as a builder but
his family knows that he can't, he's got
bad memory loss, doesn't like to be told
what to do, unable to try new things. A
whole list of other things that are
driving us all up the wall with. Does
anyone know any medication for this? Can
it be cured? My father is 62years old,
once you are diagnosed with this how much
longer approximately are they expected to
live? Anyone with answers or suggestions
much appreciated. Thanks

The brain is a muscle and will atrophy
from non-use just like any other muscle.
He needs to exercise his brian by reading,
doing cross-words, engaging in
conversation, doing things with his hands,
perhaps a hobby, watching shows like Wheel
of Fortune or The Price Is Right, etc.
Have you checked into the beginning stages
of Alzheimer's or Sundowner's Syndrome?
Older people get Sundowner's in the
evening, it's a period of mental confusion
when the sun goes down. It's a real
medical condition too.
