Q: Jaw Pain

hey,

On two consecutive nights last week (Tues and Wed) I took blows to my jaw- first a shoulder and then an elbow while I was playing basketball. The thing is, I didn't really have much pain the days right after the injury (no problems eating or anything). Since Friday though, the pain in my right jaw (where the initial post-injury pain was located) has gotten worse. Each morning it seems to hurt a little more so I guess its something thats happening while I sleep. Its at the point now where chewing food causes a fair amount of pain. I have no pain opening my mouth, just when I have to clench (especially bad if I just had to open my mouth wide). Long-time athlete so I don't usually panic if injuries don't heal overnight, but this one seems to be getting worse with time, not better. Anyone know what might be going on and if I should go see a dentist/doctor? -Ross

you should go see a dentist that specializes in jaw injuries. an nmd would be good. apply heat to the area. you may end up with lasting problems with this. however we are going to cross our fingers and hope that its just bruised. keep your diet soft and treat it like its sprained. if you need anyting let me know.
