The other day I took my son to Walmart and as we were walking down the aisles a group of teenage girls was walking towards us swearing up a storm, every other sentence was 'f-this and f-that'. I put my hands over my sons ears and told them that they were in a public place and needed to act appropriately.
Anyways,I got home and I was playing with my son.I was chasing him around and he was laughing his head off, then he stops, looks at me and says F***.It shocked me,I put him in timeout, and told him that it wasn't a nice word and that I never wanted to hear him say it again but my son is 2 years old,he doesn't understand what he said,he doesn't know that it is wrong.
What can I do to teach him that those words are bad?
I have no ideas!

I'm probably going to get a lot of flack for this, but....
If/when he does say it again, ONE tiny drop of Tabasco/hot sauce on his tongue as a pre-explained consequence. Let him taste the tabasco on his own terms, and then he'll know that he doesn't want it on his tongue again. This was my consequence as a small child for much lesser words (I think it was "hate") and let me tell you, it worked. I don't remember the experience in the slightest, but I didn't use the word again.
If you're unwilling to use tabasco, black pepper works too.

i would have ignored it the first time. if he sees it gets a rise out of you he may continue to say it. if he said it a second time, i would have explained that it's not a nice word and we don't say it in this house. after the third time there would have been consequences like time-out.

has he said it again?

No.
He's only said it the once so far.I think it was just because he had JUST heard it from those girls and he is at the mimicing stage right now.He copies everything I say and even some things he sees other people say.
I couldn't ignore it,when he said it my jaw just dropped.I wasn't ready for it and so I just reacted. He did his timeout and then he came over and gave me a hug.
I think he's too young to know any better but I know I need to nip it in the bud now.

You did the right thing by telling those girl, I personally don't have the guts to do that but you did and Kudos for being brave. About your son tell him that it's not nice to say that and it's not right to use those words, my 2 years old son said 'Loser' after listening to a song and I told him 'Boy...no don't say that okay, not nice to say that'. Children at this age imitates what they see and hear eventhough they didn't know what they say. Tell him why he can't use it and the consequences when he use.

I would have said something to the girls as well. I think you handled it fine. Make sure he knows that was a naughty word and be consistent with his consequence of a time out if he does it again.

I would have said to ignore it too, but he may think it's not a big deal enough to say it again and next time in a store or a restaurant.
