anorexic mom with colostomy bag, emaciated body Posted: 02-25-08 08:44am
Hi all, looking for help and don't know
where to turn... I'm convinced my mom is
anorexic. She's been in and out of the
hospital for the last decade and this last
round I think she came very close to
dying. I live a few states away so I'm not
around much. The family that is is worn
out and refuses to confront her or deal
with it anymore.
She started out on alcohol about 30 years
ago. Transitioned to prescription pills
when we confronted her about that... and
now is on to an eating disorder after we
confronted her about the pills.
Her body is shot. If you describe her
condition lit basically synchs up to the
list of side effects of an eating
disorder. Colostomy bag, dental veneers,
emaciated body, heart problems, kidney
problems, infections she can't shake,
memory problems, etc. I'm at the end of my
rope with her. It's destroying our family.
I've told her I don't want my daughters
around her until she gets better and I
really don't know what else to do. She's
very good and turning the discussion
around and trying to make you feel
guilty/ashamed about bringing it up.
Any advice?

Hi, welcome here.
Your mom does know that she has a problem,
even if you feel guilty about talking
about it - which you shouldn't, honestly -
you should continue trying to make her see
that you are really aware of it. It's very
hard, but it's the best you can do,
besides getting all the information you
can about this subject.
