Can Someone Relate?
Posted: 05-06-04 18:18pm

Hi, I have just been recently treated for bacterial vaginosis, and I was on medication for 2 weeks taking 2 pills a day. Its been about 1 1/2-2 weeks later after finishing the pills and i've notice that the symptoms are coming back. Is this normal to sometimes happen, for it to reoccur? And what will the Dr. Give me this time to fix it to make it go away? Thanks

I Had the Same Problem

Yes I was always getting bacterial vaginosis and the doctor said he didnt know why you get it, it can be lots of reasons. He would always give me the gel to insert vaginally and it would always come back and its frustrating because its not a good feeling to have it. So then after looking at all the times I was in he gave me some pills to take and I cant remember the name but ill get back at you with that and it went away. See but I ended up looking back at the day I first went in and it was around the time I started wearing tampons and he said that could be one of the reasons so I stopped using them and I havent got one since. Or it could be that or could be that I left my cheating boyfriend and maybe because he was dirty I dont know but I think it was the tampons. Let me know if this is similar to your situation.

Are you on birth control? I had problems with a yeast infection constantly occuring until I went off of the birth control pills. I don't know if the same can happen with bacterial vaginosis, but I thought I would share.

There are several causes for bv.
Tampons can cause it or make it recurr, but if you use nonscented ones and change them as often as you are suppose to, then you should be o.K.
However, some people just have recurring bv. I do. As soon as it goes away, it comes back and I wait until my next appointment to do anything about it.
If the me......Pill didn't work though, ask for a different antibiotic. My doctor gave me the z-pak and it worked great. Plus, it doesn't make you sick like the other stuff does.

Occasional mild vinegar douche (about once a week, although i've heard it's not a great idea to do this long term) worked for me as a preventative. I seem to have outgrown the tendency in the past few years...But everyone's right, it can tend to be a semi-chronic problem.

My doctor told me to never ever douche. It is very bad for your body and can actually cause b.V along with other infections.

I would try taking acidophillus lactobacillus every day to restore friendly bacteria. Go on a detox diet for 1 month - cut out acohol, wheat, dairy, caffeine, sugar and processed foods. Eat lots of brown rice, fruit and veg and drink plenty of water. Also take bee propolis - only if you are not allergic to bee stings though! Test by rubbing a propolis pill against your lower lip - if you're allergic your lip will swell. Bee propolis is a natural antibiotic - more sterile than an operating theatre!! Take it for about 3 months to knock our any underlying infections.

I had a similar problem 11 years ago, when I went back on the pill after a 4 year break.I was off and on flagyl 5 or 6 times in 6 months.I used both the pill form and the gel.I was a miserable mess.I then started to alternate with yeast infections!!!I was near the end of my rope when I found an article on recurrent vaginal infections.I went on a yeast-free diet and took diflucan for 3 weeks .I also used probitics which help to restore the balance of the bacteria, which is sometimes responsible for these problems.I'm not saying that you should try this, but it sure helped me.I have not had any problems recently, but have to be very careful whenever I am on an antibiotic,i almost always get them(bv)if I don't use probiotics while on the meds.Oh-never douche!!!That just pushes bacteria further into your reproductive organs and can make your problems worse!!!Good luck,i know how you are suffering!Patty
