Quote:
A 16-year-old girl has given birth to triplets for the second time in a case which has stunned doctors and caused outrage in Argentina.

The girl, named only as Pamela, had a second set of female triplets earlier this month after giving birth to her first set at the age of 15 in July 2006. She had her first child, a boy, when she was just 14.

All seven children were born prematurely but without any kind of fertility treatment. While doctors say the three newborns and their mother are well, the case has sparked debate across Argentina.

The girl, who turns 17 on Monday, and comes from the town of Leones in the province of Cordoba, has received help from local authorities, including the building of a house for the family on some donated land.

Pamela's mother, Magdalena, 49, who works as a cleaner to support her grandchildren, said: "When we knew that we would again have triplets we wanted to die. She has no job, the father of the triplets left and I am the sole breadwinner for her and her family."

The case has sparked debate across the Roman Catholic country, with the media saying rather than financial help, she should have received better sex education and birth control advice.

I love that last part, lol!

All I can say is WOW. I thought I had a lot of kids at a young age (4 by 23) but that has me beat hands down. I wonder when the mother of the 7 kids will get a job?

That is crazy! The odds of having one set of natural triplets is so low. I can't even imagine the odds of having two sets.

This is why birth control needs to be readily available.

That poor girl.

The thought of having 7 children under the age of 3 makes me want to curl up in a corner and rock.

The reason they don't have birth control readily available is because it is a Catholic country, and the Catholic church doesn't allow (or calls it a sin, etc.) birth control.

I truly don't understand why this upsets anyone. Girls are always getting pregnant at young ages, & sometimes repeatably. The only difference between this young girl, & others is that she beat the odds by getting pregnant w.triplets, not only once, but twice.! & honestly, think about it, what difference would it make to her & her SEVEN children to get a job, the $6 an hour would BARELY make a difference. Especially if daycare were a factor, the money she'd be making would not even be enough to put all her babies in daycare, while she worked. Would there really be a point? She'd just lose all that time she could be spending time w.& raising her babies, & since the damage is already done... they just need a loving mother.

Well that's not quite accurrate. The real difference with this girl is that she's in Argentina (which is hardly North America or the UK), she's probably lacking some serious education (especially sex ed), does not have an option to educate herself and even if she could find a way to educate herself there'd be no way for her to find and use birthcontrol.

Our teen pregnancies are probably far more irresponsible than the circumstances that gave this girl 7 babies.

is that teaching sex ed in catholic elementary or highschool? i dont kno if theres nuns and priests that dont teach it in the U.S. or if nuns and priests do teach catholic schools in the U.S. but in canada nuns and priests dont have anything to do with the curiculum they hold masses but teachers just like teachers in public schools teach us, but have to be catholic to teach in catholic schools.

i was taught it, but i dont think that just cuz its a catholic school they should brush the subject off. it still should be taught just like the religious teachings.

Why is it ok for other people to pay for her bills and those of her children? Do you really not see anything wrong with this?

If every woman did this, what would happen to our way of life? Who would have the jobs that actually made the money? Luckily most women WAIT to have children until they are educated, have a job, support themselves, and are married, so that when they have their child they can stay home and their husband supports the family.

I agree, as a taxpayer i dont want my taxes going into dole that is supporting someone just because they choose not to use protection and choose to have sex Neutral I'd rather help support someone who is old and has done their duty to society now can do it no more Smile
