I had a back pain episode 3 months ago. I
found an article saying that specific
exercises may help prevent back pain
issues in the future.
The exercises are listed in this sit Link
removed
Do such exerises really help to avoid
future back pain episodes?

Hello Sotirisp,
Welcome to this forum and the great people
who post and try to help others.
Do exercises at the recommendation of a
spinal surgeon and under the care of a
physical therapist help to reduce back
pain? VERY DEFINITELY!!!!
Should you "play doctor" and do exercises
you found in a article? NEVER in my
opinion. You never know if they exercise
will help or aggrevate the back pain as
well as the situation causing the pain.
PLEASE see a neurologist/spinal surgeon
and have them determine what is best for
you to eliminate/reduce the back pain that
you had/have.

Thanks for your answer RichT.
My doctor suggested me swimming and
mentioned nothing about any exercises. I
guess i have to visit and take advise from
another doctor as well.
Swimming in the sea is not the easiest
thing to do during winter, and i don't
seem to find any swimming pools near where
i live.
But you are right, i must get some
professional advise yet.
Thank you!

Hello Sotrisp,
That is an excellent idea to see another
doctor and get his/her advice. When you
visit the second doctor if the doctor does
not mention exercise may I suggest that
you ask your doctor about exercises and
for you to see a physical therapist.
Take care. Let us know how things go.

Does Yoga help at all? My girlfriend does
Yoga and suggested that I try it, but I
was adamant in saying NO. I am rethinking
that now.

Hello Ashoverman,
In my opinion you were correct the first
time by saying NO!!!! You may do some
"exercise" in Yoga which might help,
however, you may also do something that
will make your condition much worse.
My advice - When a doctor recommends
physical therapy, then see a well
qualified respected physical therapist.
Let the Yoga to those who do not have back
problems.
