My name is jennifer and my hubby's name is
mike. Mike smokes about a pack and a
half of cigarettes a day and he is 29 yrs
old. Well recently he has been having
this lump pop out of his rib cage when he
moves in a certain way. Well, it's been
about 2-3 yrs. Is it possible that this
could be cancer. I do not have medical
insurance, so he cannot get checked out
right now. I lost my grandmother to
cancer (lung cancer) september 3, 2003, my
boss's wife march 21, 2004 (diff kinds of
cancer) and dread to lose my hubby. I've
been on him to quit smoking since our
first son was born (4 1/2 yrs ago) and he
still hasn't stopped. Mainly I yell at
him! Is there another approach??

Jennifer,
i am sorry that no-one has replied to you
as you are so good here & so helpful
on so many forums. I understand where you
are coming from - my husband smokes too
despite the fact that his father died of
lung cancer & men in his family rarely
live beyond 50. We've been married 20
years on sept 1st & together 21 have 2
kids & i've tried everything from
yelling, pleading, getting the kids to use
emotional blackmail (doesn't daddy want to
live to see me grow up/get married etc
etc) to my personal favourite "gee he's
cute, great bum," what? Says husband
"well if you're intent on committing
suicide then I have a right to look for a
replacement & if I find one before you
cark it, tough, your problem" still
nothing has worked - I have gotten him to
try patches, hypnotherapy & just cold
turkey but he still smokes, just not in
front of me or the kids!! I was talking
to someone the other day who told me they
kknew a woman who every time hre husband
bought smokes she put the same amount of
money down the sinkl!!!! I couldn't
afford that & i'm not sure I could do
it anyway. But apparently it worked. So
try whatever you can & maybe something
will push the right buttons with him &
he'll stop.
