Q: When Should I Tell People???
asked by: linuxChique on May 6th, 2004

Here's the scenario:

1) i've been married for two years. We're in debt, and we've knocked a huge amount of it out, but we still have a little ways to go.

2) my stepmother resents me because she can't have kids and my mother could. This is going to make her even madder.

3) I have a great job that I don't want to lose. My hubby says my employer can fire me if i'm pg.

When did you all tell the people around you that you were pregnant? My hubby says we should wait until right before I begin to show!

Where do you work? Why would you get fired for being pregnant? Thats just messed up and I dont think thats right... And as for your stepmom screw her if shes gonna be mad at you cuz you have the ability to get pregnant! I dont know, just tell people when you feel your ready... Im 20 weeks, and I could hide it from people... I have a belly and everything and im def. Showing but its so easy to hide...

I work for geico. I don't think they're going to fire me - i've been trying to convince my hubby of that, but he won't let me tell anybody. He seems to think this is a dream and that we aren't really pg. But I know it. Not only did I test pos, but i'm getting morning sickness - all day long!!

Well wait until your 3 months or a little bit more. They cannot fire you and your step mom has to get over it, its not your fault. Its a blessing. You will get out of debt and you will be fine, there are alot of things out there to help you!

Is it normal to wait three months? Will people be insulted that I didn't tell them immediately?

Oh no! The forum is automatically making some of the letters in the url capital and that's messing it up. Anybody know a way around that?

The "stephen" and "atlanta" in the url are supposed to be capitals, and nothing else.

It didnt work for me either. Umm. I was 2 and a half months when I told my work. I wanted to wait longer, but my mom told them. I thought I was 3 months at the time though. If you put your pic on shutterfly maybe and put it on the forum its alot easier to see.

Save it to your desktop, get an account at shutterfly, then when you have your pic, right click, get to properties, copy the address url, and then paste it in here like this

You should wait until at least 3 months until you tell anyone because after then its more of a chance that you will not have a misscariage. Also, dont worry about being fired. If they do then thats against the law and they wouldnt want a lawsuit on their hands with this as the topic. So...Dont worry about it and enjoy your pregnancy! Smile

I tried img tags- that didn't work either. The forum keeps changing the capitalization of portions of the url.

Go to spiceland.Org, click on "photos," then "atlanta events" then "stephen visits hotlanta." the one I was trying to link to is the very first photo.

My mother bought the hpt for me and of course she knew something, she also took me to the pregnancy center and I went to my own little room where I found out I was in deed preggy, I did not have to tell my mother, but I thought I needed to cause it was only right after all she is going through all this with me, lol. I mean I told everybody in my household that I was. Other than that I waited for a bit to tell others. My friends caught on cause I quit coming around due to the fact of alcohol. Anyways my other family I told also. I never told the father till I was like 2 1/2, 3 months due to the reason I could not believe it myself. Needless to say I told early I am happy I did cause everybody backed off! I mean I understand other reasons. Honestly if your boss fires you for that, you can just say well hunny we are out of debt now, lol. You would own the company. Not really I dont know if you would own it, but you would be out of debt for sure!! Good luck in your choice, oh and your mother in law, forget her! (i think it was your mother in law, lol, baby syndrome!!!!)
lots of love,
heather

Now my hubby is trying to say we shouldn't tell anyone because the chances of a miscarriage are high. Is that true? Does anybody know the stats?

The chances of having a miscarriage in the first 8 weeks are 10-15%, and after that they drop to 3%. Yay! He quoted a stat that said 50% of pregnancies end in miscarriage.
