I'm not sure...but, i do know he injects himself with needles. His personality has changed. When we first met, we talked often and constantly in touch with me and then about a month ago it started fading and now we talk twice a week and he says he tired alot and sleeps most of time. This is my first time dating someone who is Bipolar Manic and I'm still trying to understand with that means.

I wasn't sure, so I looked it up for you. I found that yes, steroids can definitely influence anyone, and may have unique effects on people with bipolar disorder. They may bring on a mania or a depression.

Read this:
"Anabolic steroids, used by a generation of athletes to build muscle and bulk until so many dangerous side effects appeared that most of these drugs were banned, can potentially induce mania. The corticosteroids, which would have included the medication prescribed for Jane Pauley's hives, have been seen to induce psychiatric symptoms in studies. In "Steroid-Induced Mental Disturbances" (Perry & Lund, revised 2004), the authors report on a 1972 study by the Boston Collaborative Drug Surveillance Program where patients who took different doses of Prednisone (a corticosteroid), from lowest to highest, had an increasingly greater incidence of mental disturbances: psychosis, mania and depression. The paper also mentions that while mania is the most frequent response to the use of steroids, depression is often triggered by steroid withdrawal."

an article from about.

Once again, though, this is not necessarily the reason he is acting distant. It could be from the steroids, it could be from a depressive state, it could be because he just isn't in to you. Only he would know.

I did mention to him that we should take a break for a while and he wasn't happy about that. He said that he would work on his moods, personality...I don't think he isn't into me.If that were the case he would have accepted the break. He says he has his high moments and down moments. I beleive steroids is contributing to his behavior. Everytime I discuss the steriod topic, he says he dont want to talk about it. He is coming over for the weekend. I will talk with him and hopefully he will open up to me. If not, then I don't know what will happen with us. I appreciate your time in research. Thank you.

Anabolic steroids
my husband started using steroids about 3 years ago and stopped completely in May 2008.He was a jerk the whole time he also was on HGH(human growth hormone). After quitting them he had his first bipolar manic episode in his life.We didn't even know he was bipolar 1 until July 2008 after he was put in a mental hospital in a full mania with phycotic features. The steroids are very dangerous and addictive.Without the steroids he may never of had this happen to him at the level it happened GOOD LUCK because before the steroids my husband was the sweetest man I have ever known. He was so different and detached from my and our family
