Q: Do I have TMJ??
asked by: Alleanna on February 19th, 2008

I have been experiencing what I can only describe as a creaking sound in my ear every time I swallow which I think is coming from my jaw. This has been going on several weeks now. Also, my right jaw clicks when I open my mouth wide/yawn/move my jaw to one side. I don't really get pain with any of this.

The creaking sound is pretty loud and irritating however and I am a little worried that if I don't do something now, I will have problems in the future. Are there any preventative measures I can take and is there anything I can do about the creaking noise?

Hope you can help

Many thanks

Alleanna

sounds to me like you might.

i would go to your dentist first & see what he thinks. he might suggest a mouthgaurd or maybe some muscle relaxants.

you deffinetly want to get it checked out asap. it will get worse if you dont.

good luck Smile

agreed--it does sound like tmd--you want to get to treating this as early as possible

Your symptoms sound a lot like mine, Alleana. And from what i know, (I haven't gotten a confirmation by a doctor), it is tmj. What makes me doubt it is the lack of pain... the tmj related things that i have read always mention pain.

Alleana,
You likely have TMD and should be examined. My right jaw is locked -- so I have no clicking or popping there -- and has osteoarthritis. But my left has a lot of clicking and popping and no pain. From what I've been told, as long as there is no pain, there are no serious immediate concerns.

you dont always have pain with tmd. even if there is no pain but you have some symptoms id get it check out any way----you dont want to run the risk of having it worse. its up to you though.
