Before a kidney transplant, a procedure
should be performed in order to identify
HLA type for both donor and receiver. The
human lymphocyte antigen (HLA) - system is
a system of antigens that have a very
important role in the immune system’s
functions. The risk of transplanted kidney
being rejected by the host is related to
the match between HLA-antigens of the host
and donor. Only homozygote twins have a
100% match rate of HLA-antigens. For
example, HLA-antigens between parent and
children have a 50% match rate.
