Q: Mono Symptoms

I have had fairly severe mono symptoms for at least three days, perhaps a few more, and my blood test came back negative for mononucleosis. In fact, the results show me to be perfectly healthy, which is entirely opposite the way I feel. Is it probable that I have mono, and it did not show up on the blood test results?

If the test says negative i'm pretty sure it is.

I had mononucleosis like over 3 weeks ago and my blood test also showed low levels in a few other things. So if as you says the results show that you are perfectly healthy don't worry about. I recommend you to rest.

Hope you are feeling better!! Smile

My mono tests came back for three weeks straight negative before it came back positive. My doctor knew I had it but they just couldnt get it to come up. Finally it did, but it took awhile.

Hi, I had a mono test back in feb. That came back negative and the nurse said evrything else looked fine also (no abnormal blood counts). It was weird because I was very sick at the time. I haven't been retested since because my doctor said he was convinced it was mono because of all the symptoms. I actually read that there are two different strans of mono and one of them shows up negative on tests.

Negative Mono Tests
This happened to me... I had a terrible sore throat (worst ever) and was prescribed amoxicillin- subsequently broke out in a terrible head to toe rash on day 8 of the abx that my dermatologist said was probably due to mono. Didn't do a monospot or anything, lft's were normal and I wasn't terribly fatigued, so I thought I was getting off with a light course of mono. Then I noticed terrible fullnes in my left upper quadrant and pain (i knew that this could be a result of mono- but it got worse, and my heart was pounding) so I went to the er. They did a monospot and it was negative. However, ~10% of people with mono have a false negative monospot and er doc said it could take several weeks to have a positive result. So I followed up with my primary care doc and my lab results were "equivocal"- likely a reactivation of the infection but my doc was still convinced it was mono because of the sore throat, rash and splenomegaly. Following all of this, I developed profound fatigue (couldn't work) and have been slowly getting more strength with each week. So- my labs were a little odd but they still think its mono...

Yes i have. I got tested for mono twice for the same time. The first time i got tested jsut a few days after teh sore tthroat and swelling developed. The test said negative yet the doctor told me it still was prob. mono becuase when they test your blood for mono they count some sort of antibody in your blood. IN the earlier stages of mono the number still could be low. So later during the week i was tested again and it was a positive.
