Trailers (after-images) And Unsteady Vision. Cell Phone Link Posted: 05-04-04 21:02pm
For the last number of years (at least 3),
I have had unusual visual symptoms.
Firstly I constantly have 'trailers' or
'after-images'. Secondly I have
difficulty in holding objects steady in my
vision and sometimes (mainly the morning?)
my vision seems to 'shimmer'. I also
sometimes can 'see' my pulse in my
vision.
I have had numerous tests done (field
tests, ver, mri etc.) but all came back
normal. I don't use drugs and I drink
alcohol moderately.
I have recently come up with the theory
that the use of my cell phone is causing
this but I am not sure that this is
right.
I would be very interested in hearing from
people with similar symptoms to share
ideas.

I have very similar things going on..
Especially the trailers. I'm negative on
all tests as well. I don't use my cell
phone very much though so I would doubt
that would be it. I just deal with it,
and it comes and goes.

I too have the same symptoms as you do.
Mine started in march and happen everyday.
I also have the worst times in the
morning. I also have the shimmering.
I have a jerky motion at times when I am
looking at something at a certain
distance. I have had a ver and have
seen specialists. No one can tell me
what is going on. They have not
performed an mri, because they say they
have no symptoms to require one.
It made me feel good to know that someone
else has this. I felt like I was crazy.
I had lasik surgery last oct. And had a
hard time with dry eye from it. I am
taking restasis and wonder if it is the
cause. I do use a cell phone, but not
everyday.

Same Thing For Me! Posted: 06-24-04 09:15am
I, as well have similar symptoms. I have
the little black specks that "float"
around. When I read a newspaper, the
print will go out of focus a lot, then
come back in.
A few years ago my eye Dr. Diagnosed me
with dry corneas. He implanted my tear
ducts with plugs (what an uncomfortable
experience), but my boyfriends mother
passed away the next day and I cried them
right out. Insurance wouldn't pay to
have them done again.
My eyeballs also ache at times, especially
when they are dry.
Do any of you experience dry eyes?
Maybe theres a connection.

Sorry for not replying before now.
I also have very dry eyes. I use various
tear replacements but none are very good I
have found.
I also have floaters but they are more
like two black lines
i have noticed recently that my vision
problems seem to vary a bit from time to
time but I can't yet say why that it. I
don't think that the cell phone is the
problem. I am speculating now that it
may be tea/coffee as I drink a lot of
them.

"sparkles" Posted: 07-26-05 15:57pm
Hey,
i have the exact same problem. I started
seeing the "sparkles" when I was 18 (and
am now 21). I've been to a neurologist,
eye doc, and several other doctors because
I have had other symptoms that came along
with it. I was freaking out because when
it first started I thought it was a brain
tumor or something. However, I do have
other symptoms that go along with it, and
which all started at the same time the
"sparkles" started - hair thinning,
ringing of ears, vision worsening, feeling
of off-balance, trailers, and floaters.
I've had an mri, mra, eeg, and many lab
tests and everything came back normal,
except for "unidentified white matter" in
my brain in the mri. The only explanation
the doctors can give me is that my
anxiety/stress could be causing the hair
loss. I have been known to get anxiety
attacks in the past. Does anyone have any
advise? Thanks.
Oh, I also see "lightning flashes" every
time I go running and my foot hits the
ground. Upon impact I get a terrible
pound in my head and see "lightning" flash
in my peripheral vision.

I also have a theory on coffee haveing and
impact on this? I drink a lot. Anyone
else?
Maybe even extensive computer work could
be a factor. I work a minimum of 8
hours/day infront of a screen.

I Have the Same Thing Posted: 05-19-06 18:39pm
I recently put a post on here about
trailers, no one answered. But this
started in sept, or oct, I freaked out,
thought it was a brain tumor. Because I
had headaches too, but i've always had
headaches, even when I was young. But my
vision seems to be fine to my eye doc.
Floaters, trailers, and sparkles, I see.
Especially in the sky, or like on my white
walls when the sun hits them. But after
I found this site, I was reassured I
didn't have a brain tumor..

Pulse In Vision Posted: 06-06-06 16:01pm
I see there are others with this same
problem. I have the blackness in my
vision that corresponds to my pulse.
Every time my heart beats I see a slight
blackness appear in my peripheral vision.
I experience a haze around bright lights
and I find bright light in a room to be
blinding even if it is not pointed
directly at my eyes. The other strange
thing is the "sparkles" in my vision as
some have described it. To me the
"sparkles” seem like cells moving
randomly in my vision. I can stare at a
single point in the sky and see them move
this way and that with no real pattern.
Anyway this started about a year ago and
has not gotten any worse or better. And
of course the eye doctors and neurologists
say that everything is aok. However it is
a constant nuisance. Can't figure out
what we have in common as far as a
catalyst or cause. Nothing like this runs
in my family and I have no diseases or
conditions that I or my doctors are aware
of. I have used my cell phone for years
but I don't think this is a direct result
of it. I did start smoking about a year
ago but that is the only life style change
I can remember. Anyway keep posting if
any of you find out anything new.

I See It Too! Posted: 06-16-06 21:05pm
It has only been one week, but on sunday I
felt very strange, kind of nervous and a
little dizzy. I went to bed and woke up
feeling better but seeing constant
trailers. This kept up all week. I went
to the eye doctor and he found nothing.
It is now friday and I still see them
every time I look around. They are
definitely nothing like i've ever
experienced. Very pronounced. Annoying
also. I am calling a neurologist monday
to make an appointment. I am scared! I
am only 25 and have an 8 month old baby to
take care of. If anyone has any advice
let me know!

I think the neuro will tell you the same
thing. My eye doctor told me that
trailers are more a psysociogical problem.
Cuz were the only ones who see them.
I've had mine since october, and went to
the doctor in november, and they found
nothing. My eye sight is good. Like
what trailers do yousee??? I see a white
line after objects, (if i'm looking right
at the object, if i'm not looking right at
it, then I don't see it) strange huh???
But i've learned to live with them, now,
it's more annoying than scary. Well keep
us posted and let us know what your neuro
says, caz any more advice is good......
