i'm glad you're in a good mood. it's really yucky here so it's kind of bringing me down. it's a US holiday though, so my husband has today off from work and we're going to go out to lunch and then do some shopping.

my husband loves band of brothers. it's not really my thing.

It is President's Day (observed). Mostly the banks and schools are closed on this holiday. Some other businesses - but it isn't one of the major holidays.

While we celebrate St Patrick's day, we don't take it off work. Our next work week holiday (because Easter in on a Sunday!) is Memorial Day in May. It kicks off the summer holiday season. Everyone goes camping and BBQ's something - at least that is what it seems like.

Bridget is this a paid holiday for Nick?

We (at the county) dont have it off. We had Martin Luther King Jr.'s B-day off in January. Thats why we are at work today. We have Good Friday off before Easter.

it would have been paid but he just started a new job and is not considered permanent yet. he didn't get MLK day off though.

tanya, what's family day? just a day you're supposed to spend with your family? that's kind of an interesting concept.

we went to taco bell and then shopping at kohl's. it's really cute to see nick picking out baby girl clothes. we got a bunch of stuff for esme that was on sale, i did some serious bargain shopping! oh, and we got her the cutest softest blanket ever made. i wish they'd had it in an adult size! we used finn's monkey harness for the first time and i was afraid somebody might make a negative comment (while it's very cute, it's still technically a leash), but all we got were a hundred "look how cute!" comments and 2 moms actually asked where i got it. he was so good and he loved the independence of walking around the store on his own.

ok, apparently i'm feeling chatty. i'll stop now! hope you're all having a good day!

Yes. It's a new statutory holiday. Normally when school and work is off for a holiday people just spend that time at the stores or whatever. So all those things are closed too. So people have to spend time with their families, that's the point.

I was afraid of negative comments too about our monkey harness but we heard nothing but good things from other moms & dads. Of course there are the snobby teenagers in every store that don't have kids who roll their eyes & would "never" put their kid on a leash but that was about it. Glad Finn did good with it!!

We have Family First nights once a month where we can't give homework, the kids get off of school at noon, and they get tons of coupons to local video stores and restaurants. It's not quite like the whole day, but it's the same concept.

Jesse's sister's bf refused to let her get a monkey harness for their 2 year old. Well, he saw Ava's for Mardi Gras and Jesse overheard him telling Veronica (his sister) "That's not so bad, maybe we could get one." She was like, "ooooohhhh, noooooo, you didn't want that!!!" She ended up asking me where she could find one.
When someone makes a comment about it, like him or my DAD, I just say, "it's either that or she get kidnapped or hit by a car, what would you choose?".
