Q: Termination of pregnancy
asked by: DoctorQuestion on February 17th, 2008
------------------------------------------ --------------------------------------

I have recently found out I am pregnant and am definately wanting an abortion for several reasons.
However, around 4 years ago, I had another termination (to the same partner), me and him split up shortly afterwards and we both moved into new relationships. Around 1- 2 years after the termination I suffered from depression and took 6 months off work. I was on sleeping tablets and anti- depressants, and tried to overdose twice on sleeping tablets. I hardly remember anything of these epsiodes, but my then partner insisted that whilst I was in hospital I was talking about the "baby I had killed" and how I wish I had had it.

Now me and my ex have been back together 2 months and I am pregnant again!

I am worried that now when I see my doctor, some of this info may be on my medical records, and it may affect the doctor's decisionas to whether I can have a termination.

The depression wasn't term

Medical abortion is regulated by laws that vary by state or country. In some countries, abortion can be approved if the mother wants one. Typically, however, if a mother is under 18, her parents have to give permission for the abortion in order that she might continue with the procedure. If the pregnancy is older than 12 weeks, a medical commission (consist of a gynaecologist, psychiatrist and social worker) might have to approve of a mother’s request for abortion. Where I practice medicine, a woman's previous medical history has no influence on the doctor's current decision for an abortion to take place.
