Q: Can a Doctor Refuse to Allow Abortion?

I have recently found out I am pregnant and am definately wanting an abortion for several reasons.
However, around 4 years ago, I had another termination (to the same partner), me and him split up shortly afterwards and we both moved into new relationships. Around 1- 2 years after the termination I suffered from depression and took 6 months off work. I was on sleeping tablets and anti- depressants, and tried to overdose twice on sleeping tablets. I hardly remember anything of these epsiodes, but my then partner insisted that whilst I was in hospital I was talking about the "baby I had killed" and how I wish I had had it.

Now me and my ex have been back together 2 months and I am pregnant again!

I am worried that now when I see my doctor, some of this info may be on my medical records, and it may affect the doctor's decisionas to whether I can have a termination.

The depression wasn't termination related- it was work related- but I am very worried about what will have been written in my recirds after I took the overdose. I have never dwelled on what happened and never regretted having the termination, but am petrified that I could be made to go through with this pregnancy!

Does anyone know if a doctor is within his rights to refuse me on these grounds?

I am sure that there is no way in hell you can be refused a termination. That would be like doctors forcing me to terminate because I had post natal depression with my last baby! It doesn't matter what happened to you in the past, it's how you feel now that matters and any doctor worth his/her salt should respect your wishes. My advice would be that if your doctor gives you any difficulty then see a different one; I don't think you'll have a problem though, other than the likelihood of him/her checking that you are certain about your decision, which is fair enough.

I have had 3 abortions..

There is no limit for the number of abortions you can have in the US.

You just go to a clinic and have the abortion.

I personally prefer SURGICAL abortion. It takes 5 MINUTES, and is painless when they give you IV sedation.

depends on what country ur'e in
I had abortion when i was 18. the circumstances the doc said was these:
-only 1 time allowed
-under 2 months
but in real life, my older sister had 2 abortions (probably medicinal, not sure)
but i think the doc refused more than 1 time and not more than 2 mths because he believed in karma or something
perhaps another doctor would have different views
certainly its different in the US
if ur shy, perhaps u could see a different gynae?
