Q: Patch & pregnancy chances

Well, I'm Lindsay and I'm 17. I dated this guy when I was 15 and started having sex with him. We didn't talk for awhile but he's now 19 and we've been sleeping together again since December. I've been on the birth control patch since about December and everything has been fine. In the middle of janurary, I accidentally left one patch on a day too long, and then once i took it off, i forgot to put it back on until 2 days later. (my patch is put on on a certain day, kept on for a week, then changed the same time the next week for 3 weeks, and then the 4th week, when you're supposed to start your period, you leave the patch off for a week) I didn't think much about it, but I had sex the week later (we never use condoms). Everything has been fine up until this week. I was supposed to start my period Monday, and it is now Thursday. I have EXTREME cramping, which is very odd because I've never cramped from my period once ever since I started when I was 11. I've been very tired for the past week and I've actually had less stress on me this week. I was throwing up all yesterday morning before school. I get random waves of nausea. I was going to stay home Wednesday and today because I felt so horrible, but I changed my mind the last second and I've regretted going to school both of those day. This morning, when I checked, I had a very, very small faint blood mark on my tampon. I've been having throbbing headaches and whenever I walk up the stairs at school or sit up too fast, I get dizzy. I'm hoping to get a pregnancy test this weekend, but I don't know if I'll be able to get to a store...

If I am pregnant, I would be about 4 weeks.

(and I read my birth control instructions yesterday, and its saying if you leave a patch off for a day when you are supposed to, there is a possiility that you could get pregnant....and it says that all in caps lock =/ )

It is a little early to be experiencing pregnancy symptoms, but not impossible. The only way to really tell is by testing. Good luck, and get different birth control, Smile

You could be, you know that yourself. You really should get a pregnancy test THIS weekend, or get your boyfriend to. Even though it's early, you could still get symptoms and while a lot of girls tend to overanalyze them, not many things give you morning sickness and all your other symptoms. Why did you wear a tampon if you don't have your period? I think that could lead to TSS.

By the way, you've never got cramping :O I hate you Razz

So, the patch problems that are giving you cause for concern happened mid january? That would actually put you at 6 weeks (they go from your last period, not when you think you conceived).

6 weeks is absolutely not too early to have symptoms, in fact, it's pretty well bang on.

You really need to go pee on a stick. Like now. Why are you waiting until next week? If it's a money issue you can definitely hit a dollar store and grab one for $1.

Grab a test on your way home from school, pee on it first thing tomorrow morning. I hope things work out for you.

I was wearing a tampon because I just kept expecting my period to come. And I haven't gotten a test yet because I have no car, no lisence, no rides, no dollar stores around me. I should be able to get a ride this weekend, though. I hope.

take the bus. This is important.

You should really stop wearing tampons when you're not bleeding. It's really not good for you. Intense cramping is part of being pregnant so the cramps may not mean your period is on it's way.

Your bf is 19, if he can drive over to get you and have sex with you, he can drive to the store and buy you a pregnancy test.

He's not my boyfriend. We never talk. It's just booty call. I haven't really talked to him in over 2 years when we used to date. And he lives pretty far.

What's wrong with the bus? cab? is there no wal-mart near by?

If he can drive "pretty far" to pick you up for sex, he can drive "pretty far" to find out if he's conceived a child.

If he can't be arsed I sincerely hope you stop sleeping with this guy. If you're so desperate for sex it's really not that hard to find.

I'm pretty sure he'd like to know that you think you might be pregnant, especially considering he might be paying for the next 18 years because of it. If you don't want to be pregnant, I hope you start using an alternative form of birth control. This isn't going anywhere good, and since you seem so convinced he won't have anything to do with it, you're going to end up pregnant and alone. Sad

Hooray! I am so happy for you. Now don't ever let that guy near you again. You deserve a heck of a lot better.

he's not a bad guy. I mean if I did tell him, he'd probably help out, I just didn't want him getting scared if there way a possibility that I wasn't pregnant.

I mean, I'm using him just as much as he's using me.

I'm so relieved you started your period! That must be a huge load off your shoulders.

You should also wear condoms. Not to get too preachy or anything, but you do not know who this guy has been sleeping with. Sure he'll say no one - but that is so cliche they MAKE cliches from things like that. Condoms will give you added protection from pregnancy if used along with the patch or birth control pills AND it protects you from STDs. No one wants an STD. Some of them are life long commitments.

Good luck in the future!

I know you think you are, but unless you are different from the vast majority of women who have been alive on this planet, you aren't using him AS MUCH as he's using you.

I am different. I have no emotional attachment to males whatsoever.

I'm basically gay. However, I am sexually attracted to a few males, and this is what happens.

I don't like dating. Basically because I feel weird with a girl and I can never love a man romantically. Basically, it's emotional problems that I'd rather not get into.

I'll make sure to always have condoms now Smile
