when i started i used the nuvaring for two or three cycles with no problems and without the week off for a period. the only side effects i noticed were an increase in the frequency and thickness of my vaginal discharge, which was annoying but not enough to make me quit.

then i went on vacation and i forgot to change my ring on the right day. i changed it the day after but i was already having my period and the new ring didn't stop my period (though it became more like spotting). two weeks after that i changed to another new ring, thinking that perhaps the first new ring had been overheated or something before i put it in. the new ring didn't stop my spotting either so a week later i took it out and went back to Yasmin (which I've been on for years and had few problems with). However, I am still spotting lightly and have weird discharge (brownish) and more constantly than before. I'm not uncomfortable, just annoyed, and I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts on whether this will stop or not. Probably I just need to go see my doctor again but until then...

also, the whole time i was on the ring it slipped intermittantly about an inch or so out of my vagina and there was nothing i could do to keep it in. i tried the tampon instertion method and pushed it in full-finger and it would still slip. as a result i walked around for a couple of months with a ring hanging partially out (it sort of settled into my folds so it wasn't too uncomfortable most of the time) and though i don't think it affected the hormone's effectiveness, i am slightly worried that it stretched my vaginal opening (since usually it is tightly closed but now i think it isn't) thoughts? similar experiences?

I think it's pretty much impossible that the nuvaring permanantly stretched your vagina entrance. It's just too resilient for that! Even wearing a divacup won't stretch your vagina - and trust me, a divacup is a lot bigger than the nuvaring!

Sounds like nuvaring just wasn't right for you.

Really, I don't think it's possible either. It's too flexible.

Maybe you need to do some kegals? Have you ever had children? But I agree, if you have trouble getting it to stay in, you probably shouldn't use it. It should stay in easily. At least let your doctor know.

Then I got a two day period a couple days into my 2nd week. It was very dark almost brown, and I've had light bleeding since. (like when you wipe when you go to the bathroom instead of white discharge it's almost brown.) But I'm not bleeding all the time you know. I

The discharge is just some breakthrough bleeding. It's brown because it's probably old blood from your last period. I had trouble with this too for a few months, but your body should balance itself out, mine did. The ring usually causes periods to be shorter and lighter, and sometimes it takes a few days longer to start. But this is why you might get the breakthrough bleeding.

Hope this helps. Smile
