foot swollen and inflamed with intense pain Posted: 02-14-08 14:42pm
I have a really intense pain.
it started last friday, coming on
gradually but quickly.
it didn't feel as though it started in my
big toe but is affecting my entire right
foot.
the whole foot was initially really
swollen and inflamed, that has gone down a
lit with medication but I'm still having
trouble weight bearing.
in particular I find it very painful to
initially put my foot down and then again
when lifting it up.
at differert times it feels as though the
pain originates from different parts of my
foot, at the moment it us the base of my
toes but yesterday it was just below my
ankle on the inside of my foot and earlier
it was along the outside of my foot.
Does this sound like gout?

It does sound like gout, but you can't
really identify it visually. You'd have to
go to a doctor and he/she will draw some
fluid from the sore joint and look under a
microscope for crystals.
It should get a bit better with
over-the-counter anti-inflammatory drugs
like Aleve or ibuprofen, but a doctor can
prescribe something stronger, usually
colchicine or indomethacine.

Sounds like gout - I have had similar
symptoms. Examine your diet and water
intake. Boost your water intake to at
least 3 litres per day (more if you are
big). Take the anti inflamitories and
avoid red meat and booze..
