Lump below right ribcage (Page 4)

September 15th, 2011
I also have some sort of mass on my right side, appears to be just under the lower part of my rib cage.(upper right side abdomen area)

It started a few months ago with a pressure feeling around my right flank area. After I ate it was especially uncomfortable an had this pressure bloated feeling in my gallbladder area, often I would have this pressure full feeling even without eating and it's quite uncomfortable at times. Then I started to get a little bit of pain and even had these shooting electric pains that would last only few seconds, but it was quite freaky.

The pains kinda of went away and really I'm left with this full pressure feeling, that's goes from my back side to my front side, especially on the gallbladder area as I've stated.

Over those few months I'm constantly poking and pushing on my stomach in the vicinity of te presssure to see if I could feel anything and in the beginjng most of the time I would push I would feel nothing, except sometimes I would feel like what felt like this little mass floating around on my right side, just under my lower rib cage, more on the side, then in the center of my abdomen, even though the pressure is more towards the center.

I went to the ER multiple times with complaints and had the usual blood and urine tests and even an ultra sound and everything comes back normal.

Starting just this last week, I can now clearly feel a mass in the location where only a few month ago I could only sometimes feel something and wasn't even sure if i had felt anything at all. Now that mass or lump in clearly there and it is scaring me. I'm keeping my faith and prayers, but can't help but feel concerned sometimes.

The mass doesn't really hurt when I push on it, I can only feel it when I'm standing, not really when I'm laying down, I think the mass disappears under my ribcage when I lay down. The lump seems tovmove around, a when I twist my body in certain ways I can also feel the mass moving and floating around.

My main symptoms other than the lump itself, is this uncomfortable feeling gloating or pressure on my flank, usually in the area of my gallbladder, liver, pressure is being forced outwards facing me, although sometimes the pressure can radiate to my backside and more to my actual side. Pain not so much, light to moderate random pain in the area, and sometimes even on the left side I can feel pains. Although I do take pain killers for other chronic pain condition that i have and I'm thinking that I could be masking a lot of the pain that possibly should be there.

I just don't know what to do anymore, I won't have insurance till November and if I find out what it is now and it's diagnosed as some sort of condition it will be a pre existing and my insurance won't cover me on any treatment associated with it, if needed.

So I'm not sure what to do, if it's something I need to address now, I guess what choice do I have but to get treatment, but if it's something that can wait...I dunno I'm confused and stressed by this whole situation.

If anybody can relate to what I am feeling especially the pressure boosting feeling, I see a lot of people here who right about similar symptoms as mine with the mass, but one thing I notice is that most people are not mentioning the pressure gloating feeling that I'm feeling, which makes me concerned I might have something worse.

Can anybody relate to that and if so what is your condition, can you offer any ideas as to what I might have?

Any advice or whatever would be extremely appreciated.

Thank You so very much!!!

One another note, due to my many many years of taking narcotic medication for my pain conditions, I have been experiencing constant constipation for many years. It usually takes a lot of pushing for me to go and my bowels are often time very hard and large (sorry if I'm being gross), I'm wandering if anybody thinks this have a connection to what I'm experiencing. I keep thinking maybe it's a bulging intestine or something like that, I'm not sure even if there are intestines in the area I'm experiencing the symptoms. Again who knows, but I just wanted to add this comment. I've had many many Ct scans over the last few years, not knowing how dangerous they could be, and I also keep thinking I caused cancer due to the 15 CT scans I've had over a period of a few years, approx. 6 years ago, I had the last of them.

LeotheLion,

Just remember your symptoms may be due to two separate problems.

Suggestions it may be;

1. Do you have heartburn (occasional burning pain in middle of chest)?
Nausea?
Reguritation?

Those are symptoms of GERD. Left untreated it can result in Stomach Ulcer which lead to the following symptoms;

Some stomach ulcers dont produce any symptoms. If present, they can include:
Abdominal pain just below the ribcage
Indigestion
Nausea
Loss of appetite
Vomiting
Weight loss
Bright or altered blood present in vomit or bowel motions
Symptoms of anaemia, such as light-headedness

2. Gall stones if you have some of the following symptoms, you might want to try a natural gall stone detox nausea and vomiting,
fever,
indigestion, belching, bloating,
intolerance for fatty or greasy foods, and
jaundice (yellowing of the skin or the whites of the eyes).
See a doctor immediately if the pain is intense. Pain might start 30 mins after a particularly fatty/greasy meal.

If you've had blood work done, that would indicate it's not cancer. But things can change so get another opinion if you are worried.

3. Pancreatic Cancer

Pancreas lies deep in the belly in front of the spine, often a silent cancer, growing for months before being discovered.
Often gives very subtle symptoms at first, until

the tumor grows large enough to press on other nearby structures such as nerves (which causes pain), the intestines (which affects appetite and causes nausea along with weight loss), or the bile ducts (which causes jaundice or a yellowing of the skin and can cause loss of appetite and itching).

Nausea and weight loss
Yellow of the skin
Loss of appetite
Itching

It usually affects liver, the lymph nodes, and the lining of the abdomen

Don't stress about this at all!!!! Just speak to your doctor for blood test and x-rays/ultrasound. (Though I would assume your CT scan would have pick up on this)

4. Most common; Over eating

I found if I overeat, I would get intense pain below the centre- lowest part of the ribs, known as the xiphoid.
If you can eat smaller portions (size of your hand). Also cut down on meat (size of your palm) to once a day or less it helped me.
Plus when you eat meat your body requires so much more water to help break it down, so increase your water and you want be so constipated. 1.5-2 litres per day is essential

Also don't eat fatty foods (deep fried etc), because sometimes your gallbladder can be intolerant to them which causes a lot of problems.

Something like 30 million Americans are Lactose Intolerant by the age of 20. This means cutting out dairy products. Look into other alternatives like Soy if you are a girl or Almond/Rice milk etc

There is even Fructose Intolerance. Anyway my point is really look into your diet! Especially with that constipation. The lumps may even my lymph nodes.

I am no Doctor, I have just given you ideas from my own experiences. Obviously speak to your doctor if one of these sounds familiar.

You are a copy of me. I have the same pain and a some sort of a movable lump as you described it under - lower - right side-ribs. I have atrophic gastritis. Compliments of H-Pylori years ago. After eating just about anything the pain increases. When not eating - I am O'K. Relate yours to food consumption. See if there is any difference. I do not know if the lump is a result of that gastritis. I am seeing a doctor in Sep. and will ask but from all that reading here I conclude that doctors may not know what it is. In my condition stomach is inflamed from bad food. I must be on a diet all the time. I am. But the lump seems to be there all the time as well and might be getting bigger. Very unsettling. Do you drink alcohol? I suggest to stop for a month if you do.

Leo the Lion,

I am experiencing the same symptoms basically as you. Mine started as a pea size knot in my right side and now it is the size between a lemon and orange.

The knot is quite prominent when I am standing or sitting and I had sharp pains at times radiating from my side into my back. I have even had burning in my throat at times and have to keep clearing my voice a lot.

I had a ultrasound done on my pancreas, liver and gall bladder and nothing showed up and the doctor stated that probably nothing would show up on a CT, X-ray or MRI. Which I can't have a MRI due to having a neuro-stimulator in my back. The doctor seen the knot and felt it when I was standing and laying.

I take zonegran (zonisimide) for permanent nerve damage in my legs from a fall and a slip disc and pinch nerve in my back. As you stated I do have cronic constipation from my medication. I also have a hyiatial hernia and have acid reflux at times however, I feel that this is not due to this.

If anyone else is having the same problem please let me know.

Lump under right rib cage
Hi, I have exactly all of your symptoms. Going through tests now trying to figure out what th lump is. I feel a lot of pressure, as if my right rib was being pulled outward. I have had a ct scan and nothing showed. I am starting to think if it is maybe the large colon, which passes through that area, maybe is full, impacted with something? I am planning to do a coffee enema. Maybe you should try it to. It is good for you anyway and it helps detoxify the liver.

Hard Lump, Left Upper Abdomen
I am a Hodgkins Disease survivor of 18 years. I have a very hard lump under my left rib cage, about 1" wide, I feel other lumps in muscle tissue but have no idea what they are. It is painless, but it does not move. I also have something touching my ribs when I bend over and sitdown. My lump/muscles spasms all the time, its not painful but very weird.

I go to my cancer dr. tomorrow for blood work and to show him. I feel good, except my back hurts alot and my left hand, last 3 fingers are tingling.

I am terrified of a sarcoma or secondary cancer. I have been trying to figure this out with other drs for a few months, with noone ordering any tests. I am hoping my Cancer Dr will take me seriously. I am praying for no cancer.I just got married and have a young daughter. I am in my early 40s. I will keep everyone posted.

I went to my cancer dr... They think it is lipoma or scar tissue from radiation. They scheduled a ct scan and I go on Tuesday. I am scared, bloodwork came back good. Hoping all is ok. I have so many lumps in my abdomen. Sad

lump in rib area
I too have a lump at the bottombof my left rib cage. I have been to Dr's and had a chest X-ray, MRI, catscan and ultra sound. It showed on none of the tests. It is still there and quite uncomfortable at times. Now I have a burning pain in my back between my shoulder blades. Usually word in the morning. And my right arm started with what seemed like a muscle pain net the bend of my arm, but it now seems to be working up into my bicep and sometimes into my shoulder. I am exhausted from tests...does anyone have these same symptoms and if so, have you been diagnosed with anything? I have an appointment with a new doctor the 2nd week of November and I would like to have something to take to them.

I have the same thing. Started with a kidney infection and now I am experiencing pain in shoulder blades, neck and arm. I also have tingling and numbing of my left hand pinky and ring finger. The pain in my side is unbearable- wearing a bra or any piece of clothing around my ribcage hurts so bad. Doctors thinks it is fibromyalgia but meds for that are not working. I am so tired of this pain.

I have the same thing. I went for an ultrasound FINALLY after dealing with this for about 6yrs. I never went to get it checked because I was so scared that they would tell me that its cancer or something scary like that. I got an ultrasound done and they checked all my organs and said they all looked normal. I'm still convinced that its a tumor or something along those lines because whenever I type in my symptoms lymphoma is the only thing that shows up. I have to gather up enough courage to go back and be brave enough to ask them to test me for that.
My symptoms
-it feels like a ball that moves behind my lower right rib cage
-cramp like feeling when I run or workout
-its a very uncomfortable feeling and its constant!!
-sometimes when I lay down I can feel it float behind my rib cage if I touch it
-constant acid reflex
these are just some of the symptoms I have..

acid reflux might be a seperate issue? Could be GERD

I have the exact same syptoms though. I have a lump. I wonder if it's just lymph node or I can feel an organ. I'n thinking the pain might be a broken rib or muscle strain...I had an ultrasound too and everything was find, they reckon.
Please let me know your outcome, could really help me

Had surgery
I also had this lump below my breast on top of my ribs. Had x-rays, ct scan, full body scan and blood and tissue tests. Everything came back normal. Dr scheduled a surgery after determining it was a cyst. I dealt with this bump and pain for 4 months so hopfully it's all gone after the surgery. I go back on Monday today is march 27 2012 to see what he has to say since I was out cold to ask any questions after the surgery. Nurse did say it was infected and he removed the cyst and some muscle because it had turned black in color. Hope this helps somebody. I know I was looking for answer but couldn't find any. God bless

I noticed a large lump on my rib cage almost a year ago. It never really hurts. It is very visible, if i lay down or even stand in front of the mirror you can clearly see a lump.I only have one on my right side. My mother has this lump on both sides left and right rib cage. She went to her Dr. and was told it is scar tissue. My mother and I both are a 38D cup. We have had large breasts our whole lives and smaller waists. The Dr. said that from wearing a bra everyday that the lump is scar tissue. Hope this info may help.

I had a problem when I was 17.
It was under my left ribcage and it went away so I thought I was fine.
Now i'm 19 and it came back 3 days ago.
I was at my friends and I just got this really sharp pain to the point I was double over.
It started to hurt less but if someone made me laugh it would hurt 2 or 3 times worse than the first time. Yesterday I had to beg friend not to tickle me cause when he tried to tickle me I would double over in pain laughing, but I also found that it hurts when i cough to.

Any Ideas ??

Lump under right rib cage
Wow I am shocked at how many posts there are for this!! I have a lump just under my right rib cage as well! It can be felt by running your hand across it lightly. I would say it seems no bigger then a golf ball maybe a little smaller. It feels like I have some pressure on the bottom half of my ribs where the lump is. I do not have a gallbladder (it was removed 6 years ago) I do have problems with Kidney stones. My urologist keeps telling me I should only have pain if I am passing a stone...I'm not so sure about that. AS I have pain on and off alot. I will sometimes pee blood as well. Which again should "only happen when passing a stone". I feel like my dr isnt being agressive enough! So I am wondering if anyone with this pain and lump is also suffering with kidney stones? I'm not sure the two are even related!?

I'm a 44 yr old male, and have tolerated a small, firm lump (1cm width) for 20+ yrs now. It is located just below my right rib cage, roughly halfway across and slightly higher than belly button level. I'm pretty sure it's old benign dead tissue but it's presence can cause discomfort periodically. I'm confident it is not a hernia or anything sinister. 7 yrs ago, my GP didn't want elaborate on it probably because the process of surgically removing it could be more problematic potentially. I have quite a few tissue lumps around my body, all adjacent to muscle, so could be a byproduct of old muscle bruising/scar tissue. I'm pretty sure this is a result of an old surfing injury i.e. rib cage forced into the hard deck of the surfboard causing muscle damage.

Having had a boozy night out yesterday, I can feel some discomfort which would be my "expanded internals" pushing against the lump and the nervous system responding accordingly. For those people with this issue who eat and drink a lot, i can assure you that, having lost a significant amount of weight through regular exercise coupled with sensible eating/drinking, this problem has been less bothersome.

That said, it would be nice to have it removed once and all.

Cyst on right rib? Itches.
I have the same problem. First it started on my left lower rib i thought it was broken from the pain. Then it just went away. I was taking in a lot of yogurt prior and folic acids some Creatine as well as supplements because i workout quite often as well. Now the lump is on my right side and i can no longer sleep on thAt side. Im starting to feel it when i breath. Was anyone else taking any form of supplements or any fish oils? Maybe the glycerin that surrounds the supplements?

UPDATE well a month after my 1st surgery my cyst returned. It started breaking threw my wound, pretty gross. Seems my doctor didn't get all of it the first time. I had another surgery and a rib was removed. The infection that was causing a cyst was eroding my rib. I had a wound vac for a month to help with my healing. It's been 6 weeks and no sign of cyst returning by this time after my first surgery the cyst was the size of a golf ball. I feel great now I haven't felt this good since before I knew I had a cyst. It's like I fell into a depression and I'm back to my old happy self again. I felt like I had a cloud over me the past year.

My painful lump under my right rib cage - Hernia
I had surgery 3 months ago for a bleeding ulser which preforated and cause damage to my intestines. After surgery I developed a deep wound infection. Now I to have a lump under my right rib cage which started out small and is now the size of an orange. It sticks out more when standing. My surgeon tells me this is a Hernia. It causes stinging, sharp pain at times and is painful. I am not strong enough to withstand yet another surgery at this time. I guess I will live with it for the time being.

I also have a lump under my right rib cage, this appeared after i lost my baby last year. The swelling is situated in between the centre of my tummy and rib cage. However it does not run straight more diagonal and is about 2" in length. It doesnt not hurt to touch it and its not hard nor does it move. Sometimes it sticks out and if i put pressure on it, it goes smaller but never goes away. Its not really a lump more a swelling. Ive had a scan done and they have informed me its not a hernia. The only time it goes is if my stomach swells up as im now suffering with IBS or if im laying down. It can be seen but cant really be felt. Few people have said it could be part of a swollen bowel or stretched bowel. Ive had a lot of dull aches above the swelling towards and under the rib cage. Which we all thought were gallbladder problems but ive had scans and tests and they all have come back normal.

My next step is to have a camera up / down but im suffering with anxiety a the moment and i cant face to have it done. I do hope others find out what it could be and to get it sorted. As i worry alot about mine. Take care

With it being a new year ive now booked an appointment to go and have the camera down ENDOSCOPY. I cant live like this anymore....everyday i get pain in one shape or another. Im really worried about it but just keep telling myself it has to be done.

The pain is still around the right rib, i just keep telling myself its IBS which makes me feel better. Im wondering if something else is wrong and its referred pain that is causing me this feeling that moves around the bottom of the ribs.( or could it be gas?) The hospital letter than for 2 weeks before the scan im to stop taking the medication that eases my heart burn. So now worrying im going to make it worse before having the camera.

The lump is still the same and has not got bigger in the last year.

Many years ago i had an operation to remove some hemorrhoids the nurse told me to help the bowel by slowing but firmly pushing and moving my hand along my stomach right to left. Well it worked but ive noticed that where i push my hand along is now where i have the swelling. I wonder if ive pushed too hard and now ive manipulated my bowel and its kinked or moved into a position where its making my stomach stick out. Anyway hope things are working out for you all take care.

Lump under rib, in back and painful most of the time.
I started out with a lump under my left rib near breadbasket. It burned and felt worse when I ate or gained weight. This has been appx 1.5 years. Now I have a lump, rubbery feel to it. Squishy like and I think it moves. Near my shoulder blad even with my breast but in the back. It started out me thinking it was fat from menopause. But then it grew and has caused me much pain. I can't sleep for the pain. It's cutting off the circulation in my arm. It hurts now under my arm , up my neck and in my breast. I went on all vegan diet and it seems to have shrunk but we ran out of money and we had to eat soup, it swelled right away and now it's not shrinking but I was eating bad yesterday for lack of vegys. We will get some raw vegys and fruits tomorrow and try it again. We have prayed and anointed me but I haven't been studying much of the word lately. I seen online a raw vegan diet doesn't get rid of lumps but if it cures blood pressure, diabetes, back problems, joint problems then its worth trying. I went to the hospital last week. They did nothing, called it lipoma and told me to see a doctor. LOL, I thought that is what I was doing! He said lumps don't show up on x rays. Gave me a fatal pain killer instead of an addicting one. Insanity at its best! Lodine is fatal, don't take it! I am sick of this pain though. I was told it could be more than 1 lump or could be roots from 1 lump. Grrr! If anybody finds anything out please post it..
