fatigue, nausea and dizziness with fainting Posted: 02-11-08 16:18pm
I am a 35 y/o female dx w/ Hashimoto's
disease, yet I have only had two thyroid
function tests come back abnormal. One was
high and I was placed on .50 mcg of
synthroid. I had another test 3 mos later
and my TSH was .05 so I was taken off of
the synthroid and referred to an
endocrinologist. During my initial visit
with him he found a significantly large
nodule on the right side of my thyroid and
referred me for an ultrasound. I was then
referred for a non uptake scan which came
back "no hot or cold nodules" I was told
that if it would make me feel better he
could do a biopsy or I could come back in
a couple months and see if the nodule had
gotten any larger. My appt. is scheduled
for 2/25 but recently I have been
extremely fatigued, nausea and dizziness
almost all the time especially when I bend
over or get up too fast, and I fainted for
the first time in my life 2 days ago while
I was standing up and had been standing
for over 5 minutes. I will also mention
that I have had 4 miscarriages in the last
1 1/2 yrs. Unable to get past the 7 week
mark. I have been on glucophage for over 3
years but dosage was lowered and I was
taken off of it last week. My blood sugars
have been running in the 60's on occasion
but on the day I fainted, my husband
checked and they were 103. I went to the
ER after fainting because I hit my head
when I fell, a head CT was done, ekg,
cardiac enzyme, CBC, urine test, all were
normal. AIC was 5.4, and TSH 2.09. I will
also mention that I have effortlessly lost
approximately 30 lbs since August. All the
doctors keep telling me everything is
normal, yet I feel so tired all the time.
I have never fainted before and I am so
scared that it will happen again. On top
of everything my husband and I have been
desperately trying to have a baby and I
can't help but wonder if whatever is going
on is the cause.

Go back to the endocrinologist. There is
something wrong. Endocrinology is very
complex and is difficult to diagnose at
times. Perhaps a second opinion is in
order. This could definitely cause
problems with fertility. Take a list of
all the symptoms you can remember. Include
any mood changes, weight changes, appetite
changes, fatigue, dizziness, changes in
menses cycle. Tell your doctor how you
feel. Tell him directly about how
concerned you are. If there is not some
very proactive treatment I would go to
another doc and get another opinion.
