Q: Syndactyly with fusion of bones and rings

My boyfriend has what is known as "complete complex syndactyly" (translates to complete webbing, from palm to fingertip, of the fingers. Additionally, he has fusion of bones at the edge of the fingernails.) The joined fingers are the middle finger and the ring finger on both hands. He is 24 yrs old and has no health issues due to this condition.

Now to the point of my question. He and I have been talking about marriage. As menial as it sounds, the fact that he can not wear a wedding band on the correct finger saddens him a bit (he's sentimental). Does anyone know of any type of rings that are out there that could accommodate him? A jeweler told me of "finger link shanks" but after investigating them, it looks like they are simply adjustable rings. Thanks in advance for any advice or knowledge!

I know there are jewelers out there that can make just about anything, but you will have to do some research to find one. They can do exactly what you want right in front of you. I looked online at some of the shank rings, and they are beautiful rings.... Maybe he can just have one made that has a gap at the side. It would have to be custom made, but it would be wearing it on the right finger.

Oh one other thing I thought of is getting it tattooed on his finger... some people do that!

Good luck with it:)
