Q: Severe Pain, Result of Shedding of Tears.

Following a short burst of tears (we are saying 20 secs to 1 min) I experience instant severe pain and pressure behind eye with veins bulging (more so with time) and remaining visable there after. A mild pain sometimes remains with the visable bulging for hours or even into following day. This is extending more with time. I cannot afford to shed any tears. I am not the type of person that bottles up like this. I have had a recent loss in family and cannot even afford to express myself with tears due to this, without this concern of long lasting pain and trauma to self.

It doesn't take much, sometimes the mere start of of tears will bring this on. The pain is sharp and painful for the first 1-15 seconds, and being able to stop immediately does not excuse you from aforementioned pressure pain that follows.
I have no history what so ever of headaches. I am 45. Help appreciated.

I thought I was the only one with headaches after I cry. I have had migranes since I was 4 and I get them really bad after I cry. Maybe what you are having are migriness?

Following Up....
I will be going to have some tests done...

Mri - head
and mr angiogram of head

i was referred to a decent neurologist and that is what he would like done.

He is also running blood tests;

sed rate
ana
lyme antibodies

after ruling out potentials, I will at least have peace of mind. It sure beats ignoring something as sudden, long lasting and painful as this.

I have a surgical date coming up for simple fibroids, but in view of that is wise for me to clear this ahead of time. Prevention is the best medicine.

Will do an update posts after test results!

For me the pain brought on by a few tears is fairly new and building within the past few years. Prior to that could wail like a baby without any trauma. I was brought up in a family where we were taught it was healthy to show your emotions.... We were taught that holding in feelings can lead to illness. With these headaches in mind that doesn't seem to fit.

If I had had these since childhood I would not be concerned. In fact if I had been headache prone prior that would be something to keep in mind. Neither is the case, so I am checking this out.
