On January 23, 2008 (two weeks and two days ago, I had surgery on the right Inguinal hernia repair (fatty). Yes they put a mesh in. The incision is about 4 inches wide give or take.

I appreciate your insights and knowledge.

Should it still hurt as the day progresses (moves from a 3 to 9) especially when I sit for a while. I try to walk the dog every morning. In addition, as the day progresses, it also swells (protudes) over the incesion part (double in size). By the afternoon, it becomes extremely painful (take vicodin) and then I lay down for an hour or two with ice packs. Ice packs helps to bring the swelling down. Though, it feel at times that it getting better, except for the sitting. Any suggestions? The cycle repeats the next day. Again, should it hurt that much. I'm not really doing any excerise except for walking the dog. Should there be protrusion (dies down when laying). How long should this last? again, appreciate your insights. ANy suggestions. Take shower every day. I feel best when I lay down but, by increasing (according to my thinking), trying to increase the tolerance and movement with the mesh.

Any suggestions, ideas, please advice. Not sure what to do. Doctor says do daily activities (walking---no heavy lifting). But again, concern about the swelling protrusion during the afternoon and pain. It is now 6 pm pain level went down (after taking some vicodin)

How long normally does this take to heal?
Am I doing any thing wrong?
thank you
Larry

Investigate the mesh
Hi Larry

I am very sorry to hear you are one of many, many people suffering hernia repair surgery. The meshes being used are no good for our bodies.
If you do a search on this site or on the internet you will find out how many people are in pain just like you.
The meshes are hardening inside and are damaging the body.
You say when you lay down you feel best, I feel the same way. Any exercise, movements beyond what the body will allow is very painful.
A while back there was a massive recall on the meshes.
You should file an adverse event report with FDA, check out there site.
The report will help them in identifying how many people are suffering.
Most doctors will not tell you the mesh can cause this type of pain BUT trust me it does.
I've spoken to some people who have mesh implants and a few doctors who truly believe they are bad.
pm me if you'd like or ask away I'll answer if I can.
I'm going on over a year in pain, if you search the FDA site the problems range from neuropathy, muscle weakness, atrophy, open wounds, even death from the meshes because infections set in and doctors are not finding the infections, the meshes are folding up also.
I don't know a whole lot but there is a person who posted on here a while back in the hernia forum his name is Jim, he has a lot of information about the infections.
You will need to find out what type of mesh was used and the lot number to file an adverse event report with the FDA.
Best of Luck..Smile

Hi Larry

They can be removed and there are other options of repairing the hernia in which there will be a space that needs to be filled in. There's a procedure called shouldice hernia repair and another one I don't recall the name right now when I remember it I will post it.
It's not easy finding a doctor who will remove the mesh. Some people have traveled many miles to have a doctor remove their meshes.
The stories are horrific...I don't mean to scare you..I am trying to inform you about it as much as I can.
You also need to find a doctor/radiologist who knows what they are looking for with an MRI and the meshes.
When you can look up meshoma and nerve entrapment from hernia meshes.

Any luck so far? How are you doing?
