19 year old male. I occasionally get a burning sensation under my right shoulderblade. The pain can be felt sometimes when taking a deep breath. Also, sometimes a bit after meals the pain acts up with heartburn. I've also developed a sore throat, I don't believe is related. What I find is interesting is that I do not have difficulty swallowing, and the pain occurs after I eat rather than before. I've had a chest x-ray to rule out lung problems. I have also had bloodwork done that came back normal, and a CT scan that showed nothing irregular. I was thinking maybe it's a pinched nerve since my right side of my back is in pain when I stretch it sometimes. I haven't been losing weight, in fact I've been gaining weight

Does this sound like esophogeal cancer or something different?

When do you get the most intensive burning sensation, after meal or when you are changing your posture?
Do you get frequent heartburns?
Can you noticed if the heartburn sensation is spreading between your shoulder blades?

An occasional cause of morning sore throat is regurgitation of stomach acids up into the back of the throat.

You might want to consult with a physio-therapist. It might be a spasmism (Muscle that is in permanent spasm)...

Burning pain between shoulder blades.
I have burning in my back between my shoulder blades all day but especially after or while I am eating. I have lost over 20 lbs. and the Drs. think it's acid reflux. I also have some stomach pain and and knot in my chest. Under my breast bone is also painful. I have had ultrasound for gallstones, stress test for heart, and endoscopy of my stomach. All normal. Can anyone tell me what this could be and what are the symptoms of a bad pancreas? Please help.

Searching.

I'd love to hear if you finally got a definite diagnosis, as I have your exact symptoms, except I have not lost weight and do not have my gall bladder.

momjeeps,
I have not got a deffinite diagnosis since I last wrote. At the end of March I was scheduled for a CT scan but started to get better so I postponed the procedure. I stopped eating anything that I thought would make me hurt so I was living on lettuce and skim milk. After about 10 weeks and picking up some "bad" foods, the symptoms are coming back. I still don't know what to do except eat better. I'm still paying for all the tests I had before so I may wait awhile to get the CT scan. There is a blood test to check the pancreas so I think that will be my next step. Good luck finding your problem.

Honey acid reflux can cause these problems..Have you tired Prilosec and tried sleeping with your head elevated? THere are some thingsthat can make acid relux worse..For me it's anything creasy including chocolate, if it has alot of oil then it will create problems for me..We're all different so you may want to do a diary to see if yuo can find the culprit.. have had to change my eating for many reasons and though it's not always fun it's a necessity.. Hope you get your answers..

I have been suffering with these same problems for about two years. It seems like I got acid reflux overnight. I mean one I was fine and then I started burning like crazy. I have been told that the pain under and between my shoulder blades is from acid reflux. The pain I feel is a very bad burning sensation that happens randomly. Since I have had this mess, I have already lost 70 lbs. Though I feel better health wise, I only wish that I could get rid of this mess. The medicine that works the best for me is protonix. I take two pills a day at 40mg a pop. Good luck to all of you. If you find a cure, please post it.

32 Male - 6'3" Athletic, 220 lbs.

I thought I was alone in this. I too have had the same symptoms. The pain begins on my upper right quadrant just beneath my shoulder blade, It feels like a dull burning pain. I compare it to someone pouring acid under my rib cage. The pain sometimes stays in that area or spreads across my back to the other should blade. Sometimes it radiates to the front and some slight pain in my jaw.

Here's what's been done.
CT Abdomen barium - a fatty liver and enlarged spleen. No stones or any other anomalies. Blood work was done to rule out any issues with the spleen. All normal so nothing further was done for the spleeen.

CT Chest - All normal except for a small (<3 mm) pulmonary noncalcified nodule in my upper right quadrant (same place where the pain is) I went to a specialist and he didnt think the pain was a result of this. Follow up in 6 months showed no growth. Waiting for a year to recheck.

Thoraci MRI - Wedge fracture at t9. Doctor concluded that this was the cause of pain but did not recommend anything for it. I have my doubts since it does not feel like what this might be but saw a specialist anyway. Rechecked and thought pain could be due to a pinched nerve stemming from T9. Have not followed up.

HIDA Scan - 33% ejection faction, consider abnormal, but still not enough to make me want to have my gallbladder removed. Decided to see a GI specialist.

Endoscopy - All fine except for some slight gastritis. GI doc cleared me on that end.

So here I am with my ongoing pain, which by all tests is thought to be a result of some spinal issues. It could be true, but the way the pain radiates and NCPNodule keeps me worried.

Hopefully this helps you guys, I wish I had an answer, but unfortunately I guess i'm in the same boat.

Good luck and please keep us all updated!!
