asked by: DoctorQuestion on February 8th, 2008
My question is, with the HIDA test showing that the chemical bipassed the gallbladder all together (after 1 hr of taking pictures every 5 min the gallbladder still did not show,) what are common results with this type of finding? what kinds of problems and diagnosis could there possibly be for this result? i do not have the % for the emptying portion b/c we did not get to that stage with the gallbladder not showing up on Xray after 1 hr. thank you

Appendix, Appendicitis, Gallbladder Disease Answer A3667
YOU WROTE:

List of other diseases, conditions, or injuries and their treatment: colitis, redness (ulcer) of stomach.

Current medical status: lots of pain in abd. with nausea and some vomiting. loose stools, sharp knife like pain after eating anything about 3" above the belly button. had colonoscopy, endoscopy, gallbladder u/s, CT with barrium, and today a HIDA test. The HIDA test pictures showed the chemical bipassed my gallbladder and went right from the liver to the small intestine.

Current medical treatment: Aciphex, diet management.

You will probably need an Endoscopic Retrograde Choledoco - Pancreaticographya (ERCP) to identify why the gallbladder won't visualise on HIDA-scan. I can’t speculate about the possible reasons for this HIDA-scan anomaly, but you can consult with a gastro-entero-hepatologist for advice.
